Need to replace Battery?
Hello,
My Dealership told me that my battery failed a "lobe test" something like that and to replace would cost $150. Do any of you recommend a perticular battery.
Thanks

Do a search.
The best you will come up with will be Optima Yellow or Red depending on what your needs are. Yellow if you are installing a stereo, red for an upgrade to the stock battery.

they are probably scaming you. its a quick way for them to make an easy bucks.
they also probably tell you "it will only take 10 more minutes".
$150 is a waste, you can get better battery for a lot less.
Not to mention that dealerships lie...
I was told one year ago the same thing, and my battery still works great(car starts imeadeatly). yes it might die, but thats why I have jumper cables.

I went to Wal-mart today and bought a battery for my dads TL for $39.99. It comes w/ a 2 year free replacement warranty and a 6 year prorated warranty. Pretty good if you ask me.

$150 for factory battery is way too much *and* it's called a "Load test"

For less than $150 you can get the Optima redtop (with adaptor) -- and, IMO, it's a much better battery that will last a very long time (you can see the other posts above). We just put one in my wife's Altima and it made the stock battery's characteristics (cranking, etc) look pathetic.
For much less then the dealer's price, you can get any number of batteries that should work great. Costo, Sears, Autozone, PepBoys -- among other "joints" -- would be possible places to look for deals on good auto batteries...
Consumer Reports liked a number of batteries that were around $60 (for a different size/group).
Duralast (Autozone) #1
DieHard (Sears)
ProStart Premium (Pep Boys)
And group 24 (size for our car -- without adaptor):
Advance Autocraft (Advance Auto) Silver 24-5 $50
DieHard (Sears) WeatherHandler 30024 (North) $60
DieHard (Sears) WeatherHandler 30324 (South) $60
EverStart (Wal-Mart) High Power 24-3S (South) $40
EverStart (Wal-Mart) High Power 24-3N (North) $40
Napa Legend 7524 $60
Interstate Mega-Tron MT-24 $70
As you can see, that's a lot less than $150...

One of many load test procedures and interpretations:
http://www.repairfaq.org/ELE/F_Car_B...CARBATTERY_010
6.4) LOAD TEST
If the battery's state-of-charge is at 75% or higher or has a "good" built-in hydrometer indication, then load test the battery by one of the following methods:
1. Turn the headlights on high beam for five minutes,
2. Disable the ignition and turn the engine over for 15 seconds with the starter motor,
3. With a battery load tester, apply a load equal to one half of the CCA rating of the battery for 15 seconds, or
4. With a battery load tester, apply a load equal to one half the OEM cranking amp specification for 15 seconds.
DURING the load test, the voltage on a good battery will NOT drop below 9.7 volts with the electrolyte at 80 degrees F (26.7 degrees C). [If the electrolyte is above 80 degrees F, add .1 volt for every 10 degrees above 80 until you reach 100 degrees. If below 80 degrees F, subtract .1 volt for every 10 degrees until 40 degrees.] After the load is removed, wait five minutes and the battery should "bounce back" to the 50% state-of-charge level or above. If the battery drops below minimum test voltage, does not bounce back, or will not start the engine, then you should replace it. If the battery passes this test, you should recharge it to restore it to peak performance.

Costco $39.99 warrantied.
got the group size 25 (24 is standard fit), slightly larger so it distorts the battery cover a hair but it still fits. since it's a little bigger many more cold cranking amps as well.
BTW, used jumper cables when I changed the battery so I didn't lose the radio presets.
