Need help: Purchasing used '01/02 WRX vs. '00-'01 Max 5MT

I'm ready to buy stick, but I need to buy used to stay around 18,000. What do you guys think, used WRX or a used Max? Those are the only two legit cars I could come up w/ for the money that would give me the best all around value.

Raj,

You keeping the TLS as well? If not, then go for the maxima... has more goodies in it. If you are keeping the TLS, then get the WRX for sure!! You will have more fun tuning the WRX...

I'd get the WRX, quicker than the Max and AWD.

I have a few grand more to pay off my CLS, and then I'm buying either a RSX-S or a WRX.. either car, you can dump about 10k and have youself a low 13 or high 12 second car.

Damn, I miss driving a stick-shift car..

Stock for Stock, the WRX is slower than a 5spd Maxima.

But the WRX can be made fast very easy.

A stock WRX can pull low 14s. Haven't heard of any Maximas doing that.

Maxima - more buttons and luxury. WRX, while very cool, is nothing more than a motor and AWD. You'll be happier long term with the luxury and buttons, than the Subie's motore.

Off the LINE the WRX will kill any car period because of its AWD. If one launches NORMALLY not doing a 6000 rpm drop, it will run high 15s.

You do a roll from 5-10 mph a Maxima, CL-S. etc will leave it.

AWD is the key on the low trap time.

You all make very good points...

CrazyS -- yeah man, I'm sticking w/ the TL-S... it'll be my luxury ride.. but I need a stick bro... i can't take this auto-tragedy that the TL-S turned out to be. I've been eyeing the '02 6MT... but they're waaaay too hard to find used and if so.. i won't be able to touch it for under $22,000.

The WRX is loud, small, and quite simply not as fast unless you dump clutch at 6000rpms... even C&D said that themselves in their article.... they also said it wasn't something you should do to your car. You guys make good points.

Anyone know if there is a huge difference b/w the 190 hp pre-00 Max and the 222 hp '00-'01 max in terms of handling, acceleration, braking? I might save some moremoney if I knew that the 'pre-00's could do just as good a job.

Why not sell the TLS... and get a 330ci

Or G35 coupe, or 350z

They guy who does my audio has a wrx wagon, and he just has problems left and right with it. He said he had troubles with the transmisson and such. BUt all cars have problems, and the wrx would still be a fun car to drive... its you call.

I think maxima would be too much like the TLS, only difference is the transmisson... and it would be like spending 18k just for a manual.. ya know.
