Need Help! Icebox and stripped screw

I'm attempting to replace the filter in my icebox but one of the screws is pretty stripped out. I can still turn it with a socket wrench but the screw just turns and turns and turns forever. Why the hell wont' it come out? How do I get it out!?! Help now please!

No help yet? I can still turn the screw, but that is just as much of a problem as the stripped head on the screw! The bolt just turns and turns! What would cause it to do that? This is so annoying

You prolly over tightened it when installing. Try and get a small prying device under it and pry up while turning...if not then you might have to cut it out and replace the screw. Good luck

Ant is correct. Or use pliers to pull on it while you turn it out.

If all else fails, use a drill to drill that sucker out and replace the screw.

The inserts are turning in the plastic.

This happened to me and I had to drill out the had, pull the cover and then pull out the insert and rest of the screw with plyers. I then use a self tapping screw to secure the lid.

Upon thinking about it I didn't drill it out. I ended up using a dremel with a cut-off wheel. Just FYI...

Comptech just recently replaced my RSX-S airbox for this exact problem. I ended up ripping the entire thing out when they sent me a new one.

I finally got it out thanks to Smitty's help. My dealer installed the Icebox and they must have used air tools to tighten those screws because the upper right one was locked into the bottom portion of the Icebox. When I poped the lid off the entire screw came out with the piece from the lower section where the screw taps into. Thanks guys. For right now I have 2 screws holding the lid on and it is doing a decent job. I'll need to use a self tapping screw like scalbert to secure the last hole.

same thing happend to the front screw on mine on my Accord V6. I used a Dremel and a cut-off wheel. I had to take off the front bumper and left headlight to get to the damn thing now I have just a long shaft there and the box doesn't move at all without that 3rd screw head.

Exactly what I had to do.

I don't know if I posted on this, but I had the same issue with the front longer bolt.

I called Comptech and got their approval to Dremel off the bolt. They sent me a replacement and I mailed back their bad one.

I've since used a lot of antiseize on the bolts and never make them too tight.

I'm just curious. Were you "replacing" the filter or just cleaning it?

Steve, I did the same when I installed mine so I only have two screws holding it in.

interesting that this is such a common problem amongst icebox users.
