Need Help! CL Thinks It Is In Park When Driving!

Well for some reasen when the car hits 5500 RPMs(when i am driving) it acts like i hit the rev limitor, it won't go past that point It is just like when you are in park and give it to much gas and hit the limiter it just bounces right of 5500rpm i don't know what to do! Anyone have any ideas what it could be?

my CL did that to me a couple times, but it would always reset itself after I turned the car off and back on again...is this a constant problem for you?

its could be your ecu

a friend of mine's civic did that when he switched out to the 1.8 gsr engine in his si

when the ecu wasnt correctly programmed it defaulted to a 5500 rev limiter cut off

The transmission could go at any moment before displaying any symptoms.

If you want to try resetting the ECU, then disconnect the red side of the battery for at least 15 minutes.

Some of the more “questionable” MOD items in his Signature might have something to do with that decision.

I'll take a stab at it...

does the apexi v-afc have a rev limiter fuction to it? I always wanted a rev limiter just in case you...

#1 loan the car to some1 else...
#2 valet your car...
#3 want to do an "ultimate" gas mileage test so you limit yourself to 3k rpms

Didn't I read something on this board about how it will do that if oil level or pressure is low?

Good point. My old cars had this feature, too.

It might also be the coolant level. Once I lost the coolant cap on the bottom of the car, my old Tahoe, (believe it or not, a rock hit precisely on the cap and ripped it off ) and it was driving me insane trying to figure out why the RPM's wouldn't go above 3,500 RPM. Finally remembered reading about it in the owner's manual, looked it up, and proceeded to replace the cap and fill coolant back up. Problem solved.

So, yeah, check your oil level and coolant level. Good catch, Vlad.

Somewhere on this forum I read that there is a fuel cutoff switch that engages in neutral. It cuts the fuel at exactly 5500 rpm and is different from the cutoff that kicks in when you over rev the engine. Maybe it's failing to disengage when you shift out of neutral?

Disconnect the battery for 10 minutes, then hook it back up again. That will reset the ECU.
