Need help with check engine, and VSA

For the last two days almost everytime I go WOT, right after the 1-2 or 2-3 shift I got a blinking check engine light for 15-20 seconds then it goes out. The car drives normally. Today I did it again but this time I got a solid check engine light that does not go out and the VSA triangle and the VSA warning light. When I shut down and restarted the VSA indicators went out, the check engine light stays on. I had the codes read from the ECU and have 5 trouble codes. 4 were engine misfire codes for cylinders 2,3,4,6, and the 5th code was multiple engine misfires detected. The car continues to run well and I can't feel any difference. Any opinions on this? I thought maybe plugs but they don't have many miles on them and I doubt they all would go bad like that all of a sudden together.

Blinking check engine light indicates a misfire condition .The VSA light will also illuminate as the ECU is designed to turn off the VSA system in the event there is a fault in the engine or engine management system that can negatively affect the function of the VSA system .Check those plugs and make sure you are getting enough fuel .

As already mentioned, check the plug to be sure solid Denso IK22's are installed.

When you cleared the CEL with the scan tool did the CEL come back on.

The plugs were used less than 9k miles if I remember correctly.

Did you fill up recently? Bad gas maybe?

Right after the wot shift,... maybe too much fuel,.... or bad plugs.

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge installed? Maybe your FPR is :smitty: Wouldn't be unheard of.

I've put about 10k miles on the plugs for a total of 19k, fuel pressure is good. After I cleared the codes, next time I went WOT I got the blinking check engine light that did not stay on.

Here is some additional info. Last night I noticed all was normal through 1st gear, halfway through second and all the way through the 2-3 shift I heard a slight rapid popping sound and a small decrease in power. I think it was coming from the fuel pump. Possible bad fuel pump? Again fuel pressure gauge buried 100psi and backed down to 80-90 range when the rpm's got up to 6-7k range. I think this is normal. The sound could have been preignition but it would have to be really serious preignition. Would that throw a misfire code? I say this because of the slight decrease in power when it happened which could have been the ECU pulling timing.

I just can't see all the plugs going at once, but I guess anything is possible.

I am baffled here!

I don't have the comptech s/c, but my car experienced the same thing yesterday. On start up in the very cold early morning my car threw a constant CEL and a conatant vsa light. Turned off the car and started back up the constant CEL stayed on but the vsa turned off. The car ran perfectly fine all day, just driving or at WOT. Even after multiple starts the light stayed on. This morning I start the car and the light was off. I don't have anything to clear codes with, instead it turned off by itself.

I also had that problem with a cold start giving me the exact same senario as you described. I used the UniChip to clear the CEL and it never came back.

Flint, maybe your ESM connection is lose and the ECU is going crazy because it is seeing the boost?

Could be possible... solder those connections.... the guys who had lose connections were noticing a Hiccup.... but mine was not while boosting.

It was the first cold start with the unichip where the temp was below 40degrees. This morning it was back to 50 degrees. So I was wondering if the chip had anything to do with it.

Someone else did put 87 octane in once back in April, but that should be long gone. Bad gas could be a possibility. I am trying to let it get really low before I fill up again to see if it helps.

I will check it. I may just go ahead and have it soldered.

I am really thinking it is the ECU connection causing it. I think the popping sound I was hearing is coming from under the dash down by the ECU. I am thinking it may be the wires shorting somehow at the ESM connection.
