Need help on buying 2002 CL-S

I have been looking at a Silver/Black 2002 CL-S w/ navi, w/ comptec: headers and exhaust, CAI; lowered on comptec springs(I think, salesman told me), 18" Momos, and it only has 5400 miles. It has been on the lot for about 3 months. It was a 'factory executive vehicle.' They are asking $32,000. The retail price they have is $41,000 when it was new. I can only afford mid $20's and the salesman told me that his managers want to get rid of the cars(also a Blue/Black 2002 CL-S no navi on 18's with CAI and lowered). I am more interested in the Silver CL-S. --------->>>>Is this a good deal?<<<<<--------

If he gives it for around 28, 29 before financing and taxes, go for it...I put a lot of aftermarket parts on mine runnig around 5,000$ and got my 02 cls navi (silver/black) for 32 out the door...I didn't get Comptech Headers yet, but MSRP on them is 1200, u can get em for like 1,000 though...

p.s. what kind of rims are they?

I saw that car at Niello and posted a topic about it here because i thought it was a great deal. When you add all the mods up, plus Navi it would run you 37 or 38k new. So if you can work them down to 30 or 31k it's awesome in my opinion. Plus you'd have the full warranty as insurance. Keep us posted.

The wheels are 18" Momo Quasar 2 and the intake is AEM cold-air, it also has a Momo shift knob.

I saw that car at Niello as well with Red Rider and it certainly looks sweet. Keep working them until you can get them to $30K, that would be a great deal.

I'm pretty picky about wheels but i thought those Momos were outstanding. Plus i think those were pole position SO-3s. They should be anxious to move that car, keep working them and keep us posted. Then come run with us at one of our Sac town meets.

I'm just waiting for the salesman to call me back, it took him a week last time, so I should here from him soon. I just started another job to get my cashflow up. I've worked 8 days in a row this last week, so my bank account is filling up pretty quick.

I was also thinking, since they put on all the new equipment and took the stock components off, shouldn't they credit for the price. Say the new wheels cost $2500 and the stock set sells new for $1000, then wouldn't the price of the car only go up $1500? Then there's the header, exhaust, intake, springs, & shift knob, and how much do the '02 type S wheels cost/set w/ tires? What would it cost to replace all those parts w/ labor?

Just trying to find little ways to bring the price down

Just had another thought---> What is the proper 'break-in' procedure, and if the engine mods were done before the car settled in, will it affect the engine in the long run? B/c when my dad got his Harley, the 'break-in' was 500 miles and they told him to wait till after that to start tweaking it(ie: new exhaust, etc.)

Thanks again

I don't think the break in period matters for adding mods. Just make sure you do the break in period as the manual says. A lot of dealers do this type of thing. AMG ring a bell??? So don't worry about it. I would worry about all the Sacto guys being jealous!!!!! HEHEHEHE!!! Seriously, keep us updated!!! If you get it before Saturday, you will have to hook up with us!!!! If you don't drive, no biggie, just come and show it off!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!

wow...talk about some awesome additions the dealer made! Try to get it for 30k out the door. You may have the upperhand here with the new '03's moving in..........

AAAAHHHHHH

Alright, I've been working hard to get a good deal on this car. They came down to $27,800. So, I am about to sign the paperwork, and the saleswoman reads off the description of it, Silver/Black lowered on 18's. I said, what about the navi? She says, I'm pretty sure it doesnt have navigation, I said, well, when I test drove it I saw the system in here. So she says, well lets go outside and check it out. We get out there and I'm thinking ok, they changed the wheels, but thats ok b/c they will just put the others back on...She opens the door....NO NAVI! and.......NO HEADERS, CAI or EXHAUST?!?!?!??! What is the deal? I said, this isnt the car, she said it was. Well, it turns out that last time I was there, they had just recieved ANOTHER silver/black etc...... It was in the shop at the time, and the salesman told me they only had 2 2k2's there. So, he never called me back, I went on the internet and found the cars, but it said they had 2 silver 2k2's, I clicked on the first one and it turns out that it was the stripped, non-navi car. So the saleswoman contacted me and started to haggle. Anyways, the good car sold last week and the salesman I dealt with in the first place failed to notify me! The 2nd person that helped me was very sorry, and very professional with me, and IF they ever get another 2k2 with what I want, I will talk to her. I've decided against a new car right b/c it is too stressful. I still love the CL-S and will own one SOMEday.

Don't waste your $$$ on the CL. Its not worth it. Honestly. Its a boat, with a shitty tranny, and soon they won't even make it anymore.

Check out the new Mazda RX-8. That thing is gonna be bad ass, and it will tear up a CL 6 speed WITH mods.
