Need DVD in the car.

Dudes, I am kind of new here, but what I am looking for is to watch DVD movies on my Navi with sound. I have Play Station 2 that I would like to use for it. Please tell me what I need to get. And where to get it. Or if anyone likes to sell their set up let me know, I would be happy to buy it. I was looking at Acura CL FAQ but it did not help me. Is Street Effects out of business what is their phone number. Thanks.

The device you need for this...Pioneer AGB-1 or whatever has been discontinued. There are still instructions around on how to do it. Ron of Street Effects is still in business..try him over on Acura-Tl.com...he frequents there more often...look under Multimedia or Audio/Video topic or whatever.

It is funny I just talked to them yesterday 5 o'clock with dude name Joseph he said it will take 2 days for me to order one.

I just called them again and his manager said that he was fired yesterday for giving wrong info for like 10 times.

I will look for some more.

Come on dude, don't be mad. There are dozens of places that list them at various [low] prices but the reason why they can do this is because they don't have them. We have them. Those that have them list what is called "we have them in our hands prices". You'll quickly find that there's a price difference of about 10 times between the haves and the have nots. Don't hate us, hate the American way, it's called supply and demand.

I rememeber when these things were priced at around $99. If you see for in the mid 300's to 400's, I would buy one. BTW, before you get all in a huff, people in this forum have been finding out for over a year now, that folks will list this part and tell you how much it is and if you want to buy one from them, they'll have to order it from the manufacturer because they don't keep them in stock locally. If you get a good dealer, they will call you back and apologize and tell you the item is discontinued. If you get a bad dealer, you order will remain on backorder look after you've sold your car if you get a callback at all.

No we're not trying to screw you, we would never try to sell you our used stuff for more than a grand. I would rather put it on eBay and let people "screw themselves" if that's what you wanna call it.

I bought mine for $115 dollars when I was doing my Navi/DVD conversion. Even then they were short on stock of the pioneer unit.
The thing that I don't understand, "is this the only unit that will perform the needed function?" It is impossible for it to be the only model in the world that performs the needed function. Some other company MUST produce a unit that would serve the same purpose.........

I think there might be but either we have been unable to locate it or else these parts are a piece of a large unit which would mean there really is no practical application for this device as a standalone product.

Also not only is this product discontinued, but the alternative to the FM modulator, the Sony switch is also discontinued. What is the FM modulator? It allows you to play sound through your stock system when you are using your Navi conversion. What's so bad about it? It's good when your car is parked and your watching movies or playing games, but when you start driving at like freeway speed...you won't hear shit from what I heard from people. The Sony switch supposedly is better than the FM modulator but requires more modifications if I am correct.

Exactly those few who do have them (and there are a few left in the world someplaces) seems they don't want to sell them alone.

Just something I found with a search on google. It's designed for a home system, but can be used in your car. It's frickin huge though...

The Sony switch produces MUCH better sound quality than the FM modulator. But it is a little more difficult to install.

Since it is discontinued, you could achieve the same thing with 2 4pdt relays (you can get them at radio shack), and those would actually be a little easier to install since you won't need to splice rca plugs onto the bare wires.

The problem with the sony switch type solution is you will need a way to control the volume from your alternative source (a dvd player in this case). You will also need something with either an headphone out or an aftermarket line driver of some kind (I'm using a AudioControl 4.1) to boost the line level signal to a volume that you will be happy with.

But the sound quality is well worth the trouble. Believe me.
