Unhappy Need A Confidence Boost!

Hey guys, I just traded my '97 cl 2.2 for a 2001 cl-s black on tan. Would have rather had bl on bl but, what do you do? The only problem I saw was that it has 154,000. The paint needs a little work but I've seen mush much worse. Interior looks great. Now here is the kicker. When I picked it up I needed the code for the radio, so the car lot I bought it from, told me to go to ACURA to reset it and they pay for it. I have it done the same day and took the car lot my receipt. The whole time I'm driving I'm thinking, WOW this thing drives great. What power! Made my last cl seem like a Civic DX. Not 5 mins back on the road my trans spasses out. I limp back to the car lot and they take the car, very disappointed and pissed, but they took it back no problem. You can imagine I was also disappointed. I wasn't really pissed because I knew of the trans issues with these cl's. I was more worried that the car lot would try to screw me over when they find out just how much it would cost them to fix. Worried for two days, I get a call yesterday telling me that they actually bought a trans warrenty because they knew this could happen and not to worry. Great, I thought. But, do I need to worry futher. I mean this whole thing has kind of rattled me. Did I make a mistake since it has 154,000 mi? My lasy cl had 178,000 and absolutly no problems. Anyone have a cl or know someone with high milage like mine and no problems? I'm just looking for reassurance I made a OK desision.

Thanks Guys

How much are you paying for it? If you are really worried about the tranny and want even a little more power you should look into getting a 6 speed. The prices are pretty fair now.

I'm payin' $9000 for it I know it's a little much but they gave me $3,500 for my old cl I still owed $2,000 on it. I'm not going through the trouble and cost of a manni tanni. Especially since I already feel I've payed too much for the car already.

$9000 for the car seems a bit high.

Well $9000 does seem like a bit much for that many miles and that year.

I think i got a damn good deal on my 6 speed, but i think they can be had in excellent condition for 10-11k with half the miles you got on the '01

I would say that you are afraid after the fact and dont want the car. Then look for a CLS6

Believe me, I really do want the car. I just would like to know I could possibly get another 70k to 100k out of it. Or is that stretching it? It is a Honda product. I'm assuming if I really take care of the car it's a good possibility.

why don't you sell privately and then you have that $2500 in your pocket anyway

$9000 is a bit much considering i got mine for $6000 with 140k. Yea its got alot of miles but its only had one owner and the guy gave me reciepts from all the maintenance he's had done from '03-'08. I don't know if you'll get another 100k but I had an Integra with 200k. I drove it across the country twice......not a single problem. Now i know its not the same car but these cars are very well built.

Your getting the wrong car. Your expecting too much. Your also getting jacked on the price.
154K miles on an 01? & you want to get 70K more miles?
I think your trying to live beyond your means. No one should be financing a used car with 150k miles & expecting to drive it like that.

You got jacked. They maybe paid $3,000-$3,500 for it with everything. 9 grand means they did well by you. Should have studied the market more carefully. Was it a franchised dealer or a corner pot lot?

Man, you guys are rough. Maybe I should have waited or talk the salesman down. But it was too easy to get. I didn't think it through. It's done now. All I can do is make the best of it. "Live and Learn, Live and Learn!"

You didn't get ripped off in an absolute sense in that KBB shows $10,300 for retail in Northern California and hopefully they took care of you on the warranty for the transmission. Just watch out for the ballasts that power the headlights and do you know if the timing belt was changed?

Carfax shows timing belt was changed not too long ago and I got a good warranty with the replaced transmission. I have no record of the ballast being replaced. Is there an issue with them?

The ballast just powers the headlights. If either headlight starts to flicker then you must replace the ballast. $300 if you go with an Acura ballast. Sounds like the place you bought it from is taking care of you which is worth a lot.
