Need advice on Which to buy...

I am in the market for a new car. The requirements for this new car are at least V6 240hp, manual transy, good HID, no two seater, no more than $36k, fun to drive, and most important "reliability".

Currently I am interested in Acura CL Type-S. I never own an Acura before nor driven CL Type-S. I hope you guys can give me some feed backs on this car or other cars you would recommend.

Are those HID lights on CL Type-S bright? Do they really cover more area than the ordinary lights? I saw a few CL/TL on the freeway at night, the lights are white (not blue at all, similiar to PIAA super white) and the coverage area is about the same as ordinary lights. Acura.com says their HID lights cover nearly double of what ordinary lights can do. Am I wrong or Acura is just bluffing?

Thank you and happy New Year!!!

I don't think you can go wrong with a CL 6 speed.

I'm not sure if the HIDs cover more of area, but the are definately brighter, and they look cool too.

A common mistake for people unfamiliar with HID headlights is to judge output by color temparature. The fact is the more blue/purple the light looks the fewer lumens you put on the road. HID's put out three times as much light as halogens and they all have a similiar beam pattern (due to DOT regulations.) If you're really curious test drive a CL at night time

The lights do cover more area, at least compared to our Mini w/ halogens. The low beam goes out in front farther than most, further lateral lighting and are brighter and more even, with fewer 'hot spots.' However, be warned that they include neither auto-level or washers, so be prepared for getting lots of flashes from other drivers. Also, my HIDs don't seem to light the road as well when its wet as the halogens do. And oh, about reliability, let me be the first to direct you to our transmission forum. But it's debatable how much of a problem trannies actually are.

For the money, I don't think you can get a better all-around car than a 6-speed CL-S. The Accord is up there too.

The tranny problems have been for the automatics (for the most part). Haven't heard of a single manual actually failing, just a couple of odd reports about the way they feel shifting into 2nd. I'm one of those with what seems to be a burr on the 2nd gear syncro cluster and I wouldn't hesistate to buy another 6 spd.

Car is rock solid after 6k miles and a few months. From what you described, your selection is going to be limited. Guess you can look at the IS300, GS35, and BMW325. Think most people on the forum would agree CL Type S is better value than the IS300 and the 325. The GS35 is the real competition IMHO. G/L and happy hunting.

Oh yeah, go drive a 6 spd right away.

You shouldn't have any problems with the manual tranny CL-S.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

What other cars fit the criteria?
G35 ? Altima or Maxima ? New Accord 6spd coupe ?

The HID's in my CL-S are better than the headlights in ANY other car I've owned. Worth the extra $$$ IMHO

I would recommend either CLS 6spd or the g35C. If you willing to go slightly used, you should be able to get the 330 as well.

Whoops, my bad. Guess I should probably read the post next time. Nihl is right, I haven't seen/heard any manuals failing either. Reliablity wise the CL6 is golden so far.

CL Type S/TL Type S and G35 coupe/G35 sedan are the best choices in today's market I think, and you can't go wrong with any of those four.

CL's HIDs seem blue to me, no different from those of G35.

Your description fit the CL-S perfectly, and for the $$ you can't beat it. With the $$ you save you can do headers and SC it
