Navigation Disc Update

I have a version below 2.1. I forget the exact number but it's like 2.01 or something. I have a 2001 acura CL S.

My question is, if I were to buy an upgrade dvd, how big of a difference in the user experience would that make?

Do the graphics change, interface, and user system change for the better, or is the disc just upgrading for new locations and such?

Also, where is the best/ most economical place to get this dvd online?

Thanks!

The only thing that would be ANY diff, is newere buildings and homes, that built after your last update disc....the features dont generally change....

Guys, I'm going to leave this open, but if it turns into a dicussion on how to illegally obtain acura navi software, it's going to get the lock... Acurazine doesn't condone software piracy.

aunggu2002, try posting this question in the A/V forum too, most of the electronics experts are over there:

I upgraded my disc a year or two ago and it just changed the voice and improved a lot of the accuracy around town, Atlanta has grown a lot over the past 6 years and it made a lot of maps inaccurate. But I would say it just depends where you live if it is worth it.

I would stick with the version you have. I was coming from an even older version (whatever came with the October 2000 build CL Type S) and was not impressed with the upgrade.

In my area (Northern Va, DC, MD) there were a ton of road expansions, changes, over passes added... (some had been done for 2-3 years) and the current navigation version still didn't include it.

Also the speed seems to have slowed down as well when searching for POI's or scrolling through the turn list. Maybe because the new version is Dual Layer? Or maybe because it has more POI's?.

At any rate the only real noticeable difference was the change of the tone on the Voice Prompts, and I guess updated POI's.

My suggestion is save your $185.

I just bought the newest version for my 2003 CLS. It was a great investment. I travel a lot in CA and NV and with the new construction in NV it was well worth the update. CALL this location and order it. Read about it here.

Good luck

the updates are nice, but only if you use your nav a lot, for new areas...

Thinkin' I'm gonna upgrade soon here. My '03 has a v2.05 so it'd be nice to add some of the areas as I do a lot of traveling.

Some claimed they moved back to an earlier version due to voice and other issues...

There were some folks that upgraded some time back, and said the voice changed. Some other issues were pointed out, and one or more members "reverted" back to the previous version. (I remember as some folks had asked HOW to install a previous version.)

The postings I'm mentioning are probably 2-years-old by now, but I'm wondering if any of the issues are still relevant.

YMMV

I am here in Canada at the moment and was told at the Acura Dealer that there is a Canadian Version and also a North American Version (US and Can). I am still searching for this anyone know a dealer that actually has this?

Just realized how much my navigation comes in handy.

You were lied to. Call them for yourself if you don't believe me. (888) 549-3798 Or look here on the Alpine site under the FAQ where they say there is no Canadian version and no Mexico (or North America) version, it's question #6.

6. Can my navigation system provide coverage for Mexico or Canada?

No. Coverage for Mexico and Canada is not provided by the system.
