Navi DVD, new version dated Sept 2003

I will definitely be purchasing the new DVD. We've got about 30 days until we start expecting to see something, hopefully Acura won't let us down...again.

Anyway, just trying to guage how much of a market is still left out there and if anyone is still interested.

Let us know the reasons why...you want one for sure because you always buy new software, or you're hesitant because you're not sure what new roads and POIs will be on the new disc or you plan to ask around first before deciding or you won't buy because you're selling your car this Fall or you hate Acura (too late) or you're getting yours free per the dealership or whatever.

Yea: I will get it definitely. I think it would be foolish to have such a powerful navigation tool in our cars and not give us the latest and greatest software. And come to think of it, maybe we can recoup some of the cost if we sold our old software to the BMW guys. They say their navi system sucks! We are having a meet next sunday and a lot of BMW guys show up for the meets. I'll pop my navi disc into their system and see if it gets recognized.

Everybody should understand that (and I am talking about our present disc) that once this cd is burned, it is a vast data base that can only become more incorrect over time as gas stations close, ATMs are added, etcetra.

I had a non navi 03 CLS6 but I traded it for an 03 CLS6 navi with a spoiler this time, went from silver to anthricite. Those of you who do not have a navi: you have no idea what you are missing!

I just bought my car in March however i'll still have no problem to shell out some money for a new disc. The only "problem" I have with my current version is that some gas stations are not updated. Other than that......

They specifically acknowledge in the newest Acura Style magazine that there hasn't been an update for two years and that there will be a signifiant update this fall. With such a public statement like that I'm sure they'll keep their word.

Chap: It can't happen. Any icon that you can display was there when the disc was burned in. Until another disc is burned and bought you have to learn to live with what you have.

Gas station data (or any other info) is NOT updated by the satellities, they are just a data link.

I, for one, after only owning a navi for six weeks or so, am amazed at how accurate the current data is.

I am also REALLY SUPRIZED that my division VP, who bought a G35S, can only input his navi by joystick only, not touch screen.

Also, my friend Mike, who just bought his BMW745i, which I know is north of $60,000, does not offer Onstar. Wow!

The current database is a joke.

I for one HAVE TO buy it since Albany is poorly mapped on the current DVD and the new one is SUPPOSED to have FULL coverage.

Besides that... map data everywhere else is fucking CRAP. SHIT! So outta date its insane... very dissapointing.

Well the NoVA/DC area is mapped in pretty damn perfect detail. I've noticed MD isn't as good but who the hell cares since I live and work in VA.

The only thing that sucks is that with the street closings after 9/11 in DC, the thing sometimes tells you to turn right into a street closed off with dude with big guns telling you to turn around

Yeah I know. In my other post i said i'd have no problem buying the new disc for the fact that a lot of icons were not where they were supposed to be. Other than that however coverage is fine for me.

Honestly, the navi is alright nothing great and i'll probably get the update just for the fact of not having an old product. What is the point really in having the navi and owning an old disc, you really might as well update. But i'll tell you the most annoying thing in the car with the navi, Its the damn CLOCK! Why the hell would they make the clock so small. The only time you can make the clock larger is in the shutdown screen. Then you can touch the clock in the bottom right corner and make it in the center and larger. Otherwise its annoying that its so small. Other then that I'll definitely buy the new disc only cause its really stupid not to spend the money, why spend 2k on a navi unit with old data.

I think the $2k should have covered future software costs. You should only be paying $20 for a DVD update.

Does anyone find sometimes that when you imput an address in the Navi that it'll tell you that your destination is on one side of the street but it'll actually be on the other... or is it just me?

It is not just you; NAVI does this with my home address! Hopefully it will be corrected in the update.

Guys, I called my Acura dealer today in Chicago. And they said they will NOT be stocking it. You have to buy it through www.acura.com at the company store. OK. I definitely AM going to buy it.

But their web site is fucked up. After you register (name and password, which was successful), the next screen comes up with a link to the acura store. When you click on it, it returns, at least me, to the "register" screen. WTF? Guess I am gonna have to call them.

Yes, I had to log in twice. But I did get the DVD link to come up and it is still showing the old software.
