Nasty whining

I've got this crazy whining/squeeling coming from the hood on the passenger side. When I'm in Reverse it make this squeeling which is louder than when I'm in drive and its like a whining. 2 different sounds. Ibought some white lithium grease and sprayed some on the idler pulley. Also used some brake cleaner...anyone have any suggestions other than bringing it in? thanks.

I had the whining sound which sounded like a bad bearing noise. I changed out my a/c, alternator belt tensioner (you can't change just the pulley without removing the belt tensioner assembly first) and that took care of whining. I had a friend that had the whining+the squealing noise on his 99 TL and he replaced his pulley/tensioner and that fixed his problem. Tensioner runs around $130.00. Hope this helps!

There was a tensioner recall on the 03's... I had the belt tensioner replaced on my 6spd.

You didn't mention what year your CL is, so I figured I'd mention it.

I have an 01. I saw that TSB on the tensioner. I don't think it covers me. I think I've narrowed it down to brakes or that tensioner. I can only hear it from the passenger side window when I drive up close against a wall or another car. Makes my baby sound like a POS. I've put it in neutral and gassed it with no sound, so it's only when i'm rolling that it makes the sound (i know...very scientific test) so i'm hoping its the brakes since i need to replace them anyway. I guess it's more of a 'squeeling' metal on metal sound. not a 'good' sound like everyone else said before. thanks guys.
