Hasn't happened to me but insurance covers glass at no-fault. You just pay a deductible.

Careful... not all insurance companys do this. It depends on state law. Windshields are not that expensive. Less than $200 instaled.

Really? I thought that was the reason for having comprehensive coverage...

Nope. I would have had to pay my deductable yes. But my deductable is $500 the windshield cost me $186. There is no lower deductable for glass repair here in Maryland and/or with my insurance.

i say get a PPG windshield, i had the original one, i think called AP tec and i didn't like it, the glass scratch too quickly and don't get same cheap one also, i paid i think like 360 installed and i like the new on better. i don't know it was just somthing about that cheap ap tech that i didn't like i taked to the glass company and i think they said the glass is made in china and they use inferior materials in the glass. the crack might be a stress crack, did you do any weird driving with your car, hit any big potholes, or maybe it was just installed wrong, it happens.

i think the only time you would get a crack form heat is if you had it sitting in the sun all day and then splashed ice cold water on the windshield.

PPG is a brand. And no there's no way to prevent the craters. I think i'll be replacing the windshields in my cars every 3 years or so. It makes such a huge difference to have a crystal clear windshield.

Was it sitting in a kiln all day?

I know its a horrible idea to thaw ice in the winter with warm water, exactly ffor that reason. I've gotten away with it before on a ford exploder, but i cant say i really cared what it did to THAT thing!
