My transmission fixed. For now...
I posted about over a month ago regarding my 01 cls 177k transmission finally being out. So my first quote was, $3500 re-built with labor, my mechanic suggested to just buy a transmission from a surplus junk yard for $1000 without even knowing how many miles on it plus $400 to install it. Another shop which my dad goes to said, the transmission is fine and he believes that its just the soleniod valve thats causing my car to not shift gears automatically. He also said that he would charge me only $500 to install the transmission if i did went ahead and decided to purhcase one. He quoted me $1500 for a new soleniod valve with labor. The problem with buying a used transmission is that possobly, the solenoid valve might also be busted. So I went ahead and went for this $1500 fix. But it turned out, he only needed to replace a few parts so I just ended up paying $615 with labor. He ensured me 90 days for my transmission and for the solenion valve for 3 years. So the car works fine now but in the back of my mind, I need to get rid of this car as soon as I get a chance to because of the crappy transmission. Im not really looking to spend over $3000 for a fix when this car is not even worth more than $5000 anymore.

I was considering the oddsey engine but none of my mechanics knows how to do this. Also, I might just get rid of this because I have to replace the timing belt again. That would be around 200,000k right?

Yeah the odyssey transmission. Would there be any hole to be drilled or this is prettymuch just gonna fit? I really dont feel like spending anymore $ on this car. I will just try to ride it out till next year. Hopefully it hold up and maybe get a few $ for it.

i just got the LEVEL TEN rebuild kit.. for my transmission rebuild... along with a trans cooler mounted right in the grille.
that's the best odds u got of it lasting without swapping in another trans..
car will be done by monday..
should have had it last week but needed the clutch piston and filters which came in on weds sooo I am JONESING to get my whip back in action

I'm not trying to be too negative but last time you said the guy you took it to would make it so you won't have the issue that plagued you before and then it happened again, so I suggested an alternate route to save money, 6 spd swap or oddy tranny. Trust me if it was a negative comment I would be sure to use my lvl 200 e-thug skills on you homie...

LOL it's ok this whole site is hating on me for going against the grain and being different. that's just how I am tho.
funny how people still have an opinion when they have no experience with upgraded internals and clutches.
I think only one person on this site agreed with my decision to try something new.
sall good tho. even if no one agreed I'd still have done the same

THAT'S why people tend to dog you in a bad way, I personally ain't gunning for you its just that after hearing that I tend to think you somewhat can't be trusted on what you say.
But on a side note, when you supposed to get your car back anyways? you taking pics? got any mods done lately? I honestly like what you have done with the car because you can mod your car while money is tight for me.

I think I was the "one person" he was talking about. Honestly I do hope it works out for him since it'd be nice to know us 5ATs have options. I dunno about anyone else, but over here 6 speed transmissions are pretty non-existent in nearby junkyards. Sure if my trans craps out tomorrow I'll get an Odyssey trans, but hey, more options are always good.

havent even hit vtec yet.. not for a week or 2..
OH tranny news...
REMOVE the JET kit.... go back to how it is originally set up.
the jet steals from 3rd gear/clutch... which is the one i roasted in the first rebuild!!!!!
as a matter of fact that's the most common thing to fail on our trannys and it's technically BECAUSE of the jet kit.
ordered the part to go back to stock... will be here in a month or so...
fuckin acura and their shitty ass "fix" .....buggers
so with the cooler, the jet kit removed, and upgraded parts... should be good to go for time...

yea man I upgraded the tq converter to a Trans Star. They are the best OEM replacement, aside from getting a custom built one.
stall speed is like 2200ish. but you shouldn't really brake stand on these trannies to begin with..
that's how I mangled my last rebuild.
But this time I have many things different from a stock trans.
new gears, clutches, seals, gaskets, tq converter, cooler and gauge to make sure everything isn't TOO COLD (which will happen if it is 10 degrees C or less outside, and are on the highway) trans will only get to 120.. fluid should be around 140-160 degrees F.
and the jet kit will be eliminated very soon as well. once part comes in.

are u sure the JET kit fix is a problem in our cars.
I thought it was put in to shhot more oil on the 3rd gear clutch parks thus helping with extra lubrication.

^^^ if that was true then why did my third gear/clutches get destroyed in 6 oil changes??
I saw the tranny apart in front of me and my guy showed me where the fluid simply drips down. it's not on the clutches. and that's all you need to know. so it's pointless aside from heat disipation.
all i know is I removed the stupid jet kit and it can only help. it robs pressure from the rest of the flow of tranny fluid anyways. think about. we all bitch about lack of pressure and lubrication, the jet kit just robs more of that and puts it on ONE portion that had a FEW cases of catastrophic failure.
I.E wheels lock up and car cannot even move.
so the jet kit was put there to prevent people from suing acura for damages (whether personal, physical or emotional)
and the extended warranty for the trans was put into effect to avoid any further lawsuits.. which more expensive than just fixing all the broken acura transmissions that will inevitably come in.
they just take the bad one and put in another bad one that's already been refurbished and call it new.. just like people do with hot tub and pool pump motors.
I was told it was put there to prevent the physical gear (2nd i believe) from shearing apart YES due to lack of lubrication BECAUSE OF THE HEAT, it needed to dicipate it by dripping oil on it.
WHAT A HACK JOB FIX.
a trans cooler would have been much better of a fix.
they basically double fucked us with the jet kit. hell even i noticed after he mentioned that to me how more people who do not have the jet kit on the cl trans are having less problems as opposed to those with the jet kit.
anyways I don't have physical proof so it's all taking people's word for it. But I do know my trans ATE 3rd gear.first of all... SECONDLY.. with the cooler on today at 14 degrees and driving in A BIT of traffic (i was bumper to bumper for15 mins) I got the trans to 185degrees... which is NOT GOOD.
should be at 160's or so roughly.
AND just IMAGINE without a cooler on a hot 35 degree day you're in traffic... trans is at 220s probably MORE and you don't even know it!!!... then you floor it cause ur mad you've been going so slow and little did you know you are Literally MELTING the clutches
no wonder the trans dies all the time.
shitty internals, too much heat, not enough lubrication.
not to mention ever fraction of a mm you lose off the clutches builds up in pressure switches and causes them to stick, misreadings, and decreases internal flow/lubrication which adds MORE HEAT.
