My story why I swithched to Amsoil from Mobil 1...

Those of you who follow this forum know I have high mileage due to my job, my '00 TL has 139,000 miles on it now and some engine wear I would think. It has always had Mobil 1 in it from 10K miles on and has been changed every 5K. To date it has yet to use any oil at all between changes which I do myself. But when I start it in the morning when it is under 25 degrees (F) I started hearing clatter and knocking for 10 or 20 seconds or so. The next weekend I drained out the Mobil 1 COLD for the fun of it, it was about 30 degrees that day outside and it came out SLOW and thick. This was relatively new 5W-30. I replaced it with 5W-30 Amsoil and voila - no more early morning noise at all, even one morning when it was eleven degrees. I know Mobil 1 changed awhile back and some say it's not a true synthetic anymore, but whatever I wanted to share with you guys what fixed a problem for me. I don't like the sound of metal on metal on cold mornings. I'm trying to make it to 300K miles.

on my next oil change I am highly considering to switching to amsoil. I personally don't think its better than Mobil 1 but then again I haven't tried it yet.

last time I checked a case of it was $60 on their website but the case I think carries 12 quarts so enough for 2 oil changes. See if you can find a distibutor near they might be able to get cheaper.

You would't believe it if you could see it but it's true- seat still looks perfect and hasn't sagged at all, leather still perfect. Mats were replaced at Xmas time and still on tranny number one. Changed that oil with Honda ATF every 22K. And I have not been easy on it. Car has I/E/H. Friend in the car business sells me a gallon for 18.50, plus I keep a few quarts around too.

I run Red Line, and the few mornings that it has been cold here have been easy starts, I have a quart sitting in my trunk, I am maybe gonna dump it and see how it flows cold.

On the new SupeSyn Bottle it says Fully Synthetic Oil.
In addition, Today it was one of the coldest morning like 5F and I had no problem cranking the engine.. It took 4-5 cranks rather then 2 or 3... Still Mobil 1 SuperSyn Kick Ass!

Go to www.amsoil.com

Find your area rep or become one for $20 year,, I sell it near wholesale, just enough to make my 20 back at the end of the year,, also find out where your local warehouse is,, you can pick it up there and save shipping cost (if it's close by) Of course I have a real job and not trying to live on oil sales. I have reseached both Mobil1 and Amsoil, most independent test have shown them very close,,, but only Amsoil has come to the plate and are telling everyone to use their product for extended oil change intervals.

royal purple is good stuff but it's a pretty expensive:thumbsdn:
(my dad occassionally puts it in his cycle)
I got 205k on my Accord. I've ran about all the "major" regular(not synthtics) oils through my car. (Valvoline,Havoline, Castrol GTX,Mobil, and others) my personal favorite is Mobil(regular)(i'm too cheap for Mobil 1 ) I put about 35-36 K a year on my car. so about once a month a change my oil.

ChuckTL: don't worry about the motor holding up to 300K. it will hold just worry about the tranny for 2 reasons #1. your screwed now since your over the 100,000 mile warrenty(so you gotta pay if it blows) #2. I've had 4-5 Hondas and I've asked Honda mechianics whats the weakest part on a Honda they say every time the f%*king trannys. If Honda could build heavier trannys they'd run forever

Ladies, 130K of highway miles is like 40K miles in the city.
So don't get to excited about the reliability.
I am waiting for a 5 year long term reliabiliy study by JDpowers....

In extreme temperature, you should use 0-50W or something (verify with Mobil 1). It's not Amsoil is any better/worse. You just need to use the correct oil.

Umm, 50 weight oil. Not a good choice for the CL-TL engines.

like my momma always says:
"if your going to get a domestic car, get it auto. If your going to get a foreign car, make it stick"

which is why every car we have owned/own followes that rule except for my cl

and yes...she actually says that
