My spoiler (OEM) has cracked.....for the second time!!!!

I had my spoiler replaced last year because it cracked......from the mounting hole and it crept up over time and now the new one is cracked.. The original one was replaced under warranty no questions asked. I just called my dealer and they said they have to "inspect" the spoiler. Could it really be from my system....I sure hope not!

yes, it absolutely could be (and in all probability IS) from the system. that trunk lid vibrates like crazy with a system, and you dont exactly have a POS system either so there is a significant amount of vibration!! being that the spoiler and the trunk lid are not one part, they are constantly rubbing against eachother and shaking. the trunk lid, being metal, with metal screws attatching to the spoiler, has much less "play" or "give" than the spoiler does. those opposing forces, over time, im sure are enough to cause the cracking. you may have to shell out for this one. do yourself a favor, get one through Spoiler Depot. is significantly cheaper and of equal quality, i got an RS6 replica spoiler for my A6 about a month ago and their quality is better than youd think, as is their paint quality.

I wouldn't mind taking it off and having the trunk repainted.

yeah, i never really liked the spoiler on a CL-S. i mean to each his own of course, but i thought the CL-S just looked sleaker without the spoiler. nicky, maybe think about the M5 lip spoiler? that looks pretty cool on the CL-S and its dirt cheap, like 50 bucks. and you couldhave it painted and installed at the same time as getting the trunk lid patched and painted so it wouldnt cost you much at all.

Yea i think thats what he means. I beleive derelict is trying to trade his right now too. And i would say almost for sure it is your system, since mine hasnt had any problems. Did you ever fill the spoiler with insulation to stop the rattling?

Nicky: Do NOT just fill the crack...do this.

I fly airplanes for fun and profit (and to get the shit scared out of me occasionally), and to us cracks are a BIG problem.

Find the very end of the crack. Now, with a reasonably sized drill, drill a hole through the center of the crack. This is called "stop drilling", and it works every time. Now put on the body filler, sand and repaint.

Cracks tend to be linear in nature, and when confronted with a smooth round hole, it has no where to go. The technical term is that the crack "propogates."

prolly from the system and the fact that the installer prolly overtightened the nuts holding stress on the spoiler. combo of both will crack it.
