my rear view explodeD!
As far as I know...Magna Donelly stopped doing the "Good Will" replacements on the rear-view mirrors. That is what I heard shortly after I got mine replaced in early 06. But I might stand corrected if you get yours free....lol
Is it an old style with the fluid or the new type that does not have the fluid? I'm going for a new one without the fluid. I think the dealership is the only place to get one, though. I haven't found any aftermarket. I saw someone eBay, but they couldn't tell me if it was the new type. Does anyone know if there is a Honda part number for it? It comes in a Honda box, but my local Honda dealer says he cant cross reference it.
thought yall might find this useful,

i called up Magna a about 4 months ago and they told me they are not doing it anymore. I think its kinda funny that they know that a bad product was put out, so they say they will fix it for free...and then all the sudden say were not fixing it anymore...but theres still bad products out there??? just doesnt make complete sense to me

Thanks for the part numbers and replacement instructions. I went ahead and purchased the SEP replacement mirror and finally replaced my rearview mirror. So far so good. It seems to have a greenish tint to it. Anyone else notice this?
I apologize for reviving and old thread, but I think my rearview mirror is starting to show the explosion-symptoms. Anyone know if this is the same thing? It's a little hard to see, but the top half of the mirror is kind of foggy/hazy (and a solid line separates the hazy/foggy part from the 'still-fine' part.
Also, what is this Magna Donnely thing that is being discussed?
Car info (in case it helps): 03 CL-S 6MT, ~112k miles.

Mine did than for a year before I replaced it. I still have it in an area to see if it ever leaks over time... for an experiment I guess. For some people it happens multiple times, kinda like the 2gen TL transmissions, lol. I went a different route and bought a gentex mirror from ebay and had it put in by apple auto glass. It in total cost under $90. I'd rather have peace of mind

Whoa wait, so is is a common problem? I had this happen a year ago and just been dealing with it. The fluid is all over the mirror but not leaking yet.
My CL is a 2001 with 137k miles, so no warranty. Because of that, I didn't even bother with any repairs because I can still see out of the mirror. So I who should I contact or should I look for a mirror on eBay?

Get a mirror from the dealer. Who knows how much longer an ebay mirror will last.
The company that made the mirror offered a replacement plan years ago, but they are no longer doing that.

Also, do you guys know if these mirrors are 'plug and play'? I'm willing to do basic installs and would rather do it myself to avoid labor costs.
Theyre kind of difficult to slide off the mount. I broke the mount off my window, taking a chunk of glass with it. Luckily the glass was being replaced that week. Installing it though is easy, it just slides onto the mount.
If youre uneasy about doing it yourself, take it to a windshield place and see if they can swap it for you. It may cost you $20, but thats a lot better then going to the dealer. To speed things along, pull the HomeLink out of the headliner so you can access the plug for the mirror.
And Im pretty sure theyre selling the updated model - solely based on the part number (the last bit shows A02, which is the revision). I highly doubt theyd still sell a defective unit.

It doesn't matter if you get it from ebay or a wrecker, both would do just fine. I chose the GENTEX 177, used by GM and Ford, which hasn't had the problems Donelly mirrors encountered. If You don't want to pay $400 for a windshield like in a case similar to civicdrivr, I would recommend the auto glass shop do it. As the window gets older the window becomes more brittle due to chips and age, so if you ad heat and pry the metal bracket off wrong or use too much force, you'll most likely break it. It's also important to note that If you get a different model then you might need to cut off the original pin connecter from the old mirror and simply solder it to the new mirror. Like what civicdrivr said, the connecter is behind the home link, sunglasses holder were you can push and separate the pin, like the rest of the wiring harness. I personally wanted to get a good quality mirror that you don't need to cross your fingers about, so I chose differently the second time.
