Hey all:

Yeah mine just did that last weekend, and it leaked the liquid good onto the silver plastic where my shifter is and melted it.

I wonder if Acura in Toronto will honor the service bulletin...

Is there a service bulletin for a leaking review mirror? The link has one for a loose mirror?

Thanks,

Magna Donnelly replaced my on a 2001 CLS recently. Took a little time for the swap, but they were great to deal with. Just keep jiggling the mirror as you pull down on it. It will ultimately come loose.

Rear View Mirror Explodes

This has also happened to my daughter’s car. Destroying her console & seats. I have met with the same resistance from the local dealer. They initially agreed to replace the mirror & console. When she asked about the seats, they then decided to do nothing.

For the owners that have had major damage done to the interiors of their cars, it seems a bit ridiculous to me to be requesting a mirror replacement when the mirror has possibly caused upwards of $2,000.00 worth of damage to the interior. The feeble argument that it’s – OUT OF WARRANTY - appears to have placated many of the owner's that have suffered damages.

To put this in perspective, lets say you buy a refrigerator for your kitchen. At the end of its warranty do you have any expectations that it is going to destroy your kitchen? I think not.

I don't want a new mirror. I want the console, seats, carpets and anything else that this defective product has destroyed in my daughter’s car replaced, and I want to know the chemical makeup of the liquid that she and my grandchild has been exposed to.

I would like to hear back from all that may have a similar mindset.

Please send contact information to fred.edelen@gmail.com.

I hope to hear from many of you.

Thank you for your time & interest

hey guys, my mirror seems to be going as well. i can push the glass in with my finger and see the liquid swish around. i think it did leak at one point and messed up the console where the seat warmer switch is located. i emailed one of guys at magnaD but got this:

I will be out of the office starting 08/31/2007 and will not return until 09/10/2007.
I will respond to your message when I return.
i guess for now just to be on the safe side,il carry a bag to wrap around the review mirror in case it decides to "explode". i just got the car last week, but i wasn't aware of the mirror issue. hopefully they get back to me asap so i dont have to worry about a destroyed interior!

I had this problem way back and the dealer would not replace it under warranty and I had the extended bumper to bumper. They said it falls under Glass/mirrors. and is not covered.

After reading this thread, I emailed them, and they emailed back right away with a form to fill out and fax back, which I did! They are temporarily back-ordered, but as soon as they have inventory, I will get my new mirror free...just as the guys here stated. They are doing it under "goodwill". So thats GOOD!
What's BAD is...the black gooey stuff that dripped onto my shifter-plate hardened, and I guess I'll have to take it all apart, sand it and repaint it!
How does the shifter knob come off, and how does the plate come off? (2001 cl auto trans)

And, darketernal, did you fix your rattle in the trunk?

Honestly just remove the mirror till you get a new one. The goo will eat thru your leather and center console. (many TL members have had it happen)

well...i sealed it up pretty well, but you still think i should remove it, even without hearing anything from the manufacturer?

damn i wish she would get back to me, because i dont want to take it off and have no action from her side...

Enjoy

These directions are for CL or CL-S without Nav/Onstar. If you have Onstar, there is a different mirror and different directions (if you need them, pm me and i'll look them up).

1) Remove the Roof console (the piece with the overhead lights/sunglass holder in it). The lens pops off with a small flat-tip screw driver. Under the cover, you will see 2 philips screws that need to be removed. If you open the sunglass holder part, there are the other 2 screws holding the console in place. After you remove these, the console should pull down.

2) Disconnect the connector that goes into the mirror and carfully remove the bracket cover (wraps around the base of the mirror).

3) Carefully slide the mirror forward to release the spring by gently tapping the mirror bracket with a flat-tip screwdriver (might want to wrap it with a cloth) and a plastic hammer (you can also tap it with palm of your hand). The mirror should slide off.

4) Install new mirror (make sure it snaps into place on the bracket). Make sure to connect the new mirror into the electrical connector, then replace the pieces you removed.
Does anyone have a picture of what the tab on the windshield looks like. I just got my replacement and wanted to do it myself. I called the dealership for the hell of it to see how much for JUST LABOR. $140 !!! my ass...so I'll risk the cracked windshield I guess. I just want to see what it looks like so i know what I'm doing. I already got the homelink/sunglass holder off. And I guess you get the mirror off by sliding the base "towards the hood"? Thanks.

just carefully tap the mirror at the base down toward the hood. just use a wodden stick or something like that and hit it gently with a hammer a few times. you will not require much force for this and should not break the windshield, it's very easy man.

woo! got it off. I remember reading that someone had cracked the windshield trying to force it off. was just being cautious. can't believe they would've charged 140 just to pop it off.

Instead of contacting Dani directly, go to their website: http://www.magna.com and click the "contact us" button and contact them that way. Just in case she's on vacation or unavailable, someone else will help you. Their customer service seems pretty good (at least when I had to deal with them).
