Amco rebuilt my tranny and told me that they fix the promblem unlike the same old factory trannies which we all know are SHIT! They told me that it will last 80,000 to 100,000 when they are done. I want to know if this is true, or should I expect to pay another $3200 for my next. P.S. I have no warranty

If you did have Ammco do the work, assuming you weren't over 100k miles, did you get a reimbursment card from Acura?

He's over 100K.
I found this in another thread:

Quote: I bought my 01 CLS with 119,000 miles for $10,000 from a small lot near my house. Tranny went one week later, the first time I got to really get on her. I bought a small warrenty from the guy. Amco rebuilt the whole tranny for $3200, and I had to pay $1700 when set and done. They told me that they fix the tranny problem and I should get 80,000 to 100,000 miles out of it. We will see? Plus for around $800 you can get warranty for 3 years.

If Ammco can rebuild them into stronger trannys, how'd they do it?

I would never have gotten the car $10K 01 with 119K miles? That's way $$.

I don't see how they can built it stronger & not charge for it. Seems like the same BS line they say to everone.

You didn't get a warranty with Ammco? I doubt that their tranny will last 80-100k.

Just have them warranty what they say. Basically have their manager on their official business letter stating that the transmission will last as long as they say. So when the tranny goes out again, I would make them repair/replace it for free. Just my 2cents

I just don't think that some place like Ammco can find a superior design on a transmission they've never done any R&D for. They're probably just going by the general design and putting regular parts in there thinking it's stronger than supposed Honda crap. Kinda like how regular oil changes don't give you the OEM oil filter but a Wagner or something of the sort and they tell you that it's better. What do they know?

You should go back and buy the warranty ASAP and make sure you get it on paper and signed.

Doesn't Acura actually REPLACE the tranny rather than rebuild'em?

Some have claimed to have recieved a "NEW"/fixed tranny.

A few lucky people claim to have gotten a "new" tranny (no "band-aid" included)...

No warranty -- hmmm... See if you can get a list of "upgraded"/fixed parts.
Can you ask them what parts have been upgraded?

Did they change the clutch packs to a carbon/kevlar material or other higher quality material?

IMO, no warranty means the shop guys could tell you “they fixed the problem” and basically mean nothing. IOW, what problem is fixed? There were a number of problems depending on the tranny.

They told me that rebuilding the trans will fix it. Instead of Acura replacing it with another faulty trans. They replaced everything in the whole trany, all new parts. The aftermarket warranty paid $1,500 and I was left with the rest. I also have a one year 12,000 warr. for it so I will make sure I work out the kinks before then. (hopefully) I have family that works there so I'm pretty sure when they told me they were familiar with this problem that they knew what they were doing. As long as you don't give it to much hell it should work. I also didn't think I got that bad of a deal (10k, tax, title, tags, and warranty) then you can ad half a tranny. the car is a 8.5 on the 10 scale and I still paid under book value.

They also said about a few parts that Acura will not replace because of cost. Silinoids being one because there expensive.

And I should remove all of my tranny-info posts and make them pay only -- hey?

Velocity Resources seemed to have done a pretty good job. I called them at one point and they were replacing. The more information that is provided – along with your reports of how you do with your “rebuild” over time – should help other folks and even … well, you!!!!!

* Clutch packs with new carbon/Kevlar.
* Valve body calibrations
* Inspect and replace solenoids if needed (BTW, these are not "part of the transmission"; they are parts that sit ON the transmission. They can and have been replaced by Acura service people without replacing the transmission. If they are bad or marginal they will trash a new tranny.
* I believe upgraded bearings (but the story seemed to change).
* I believe you need an upgraded shaft to avoid the "band-aid" fix for 2nd gear.
* Billet torque converter (if you request it)
* Other misc parts (some to keep the tranny from "auto-downshifting-into 2nd" on the freeway).
* Run on tranny dyno to make sure it's fully tested.

BTW, ATF cooler is recommended

So, if you have family over there (at the tranny-repair joint), they shouldn't mind giving you a general list of parts that they installed/replaced. Hey, it's not like I'm asking for the part #s or manufacturers.

Quick question for the experts, If my tranny blows for the second time can I take it to amco and get Acura to pay for it? Or does acura have to work on the tranny?

I received a reimbursment card from Acura, stating that they would pay the bill if the transmission had been replaced by a third party (not Acura).

I will have to pull my paper work to see what they put in it. I don't think they put anything in that was high performance and to be honest with everyone I am praying they fixed it. I made sure they understood about all the tranny problems, and the asshored me It will last a lot longer than any factory trans. The warranty company would only pay for a used one from the junk yard, and I paid the extra to have the thing replaced with all new parts. They aggreed this was the best bet. I was also told that it will last a min. of 80,000 miles. If something happens to my tranny before that, I might just park the bitch right though the front wall of their shop!
