Thumbs down My Mechanic Noticed Broken Engine Mount While Installing XS Headers!

I have an '03 CL-6 with 103K miles and my buddy that's an Acura technician of like 10 years, the guy is a beast with Honda/Acuras, is throwing on my XS headers while doing my timing belt, water pump, power steering belts, etc. I just want to clarify a few things, the first being on the box they said "3.0 Accord" which kind of shocked me, I thought it would have said 3.2 Accord or something?

And I had him buy all new OEM gaskets and bolts and all that for the headers, just in case there were any issues. So anyway apparently my engine mount is broken so he is going to have to replace it. I'm surprised that I didn't notice this driving it! He said it wasn't too uncommon, but has this happened to anyone else?

3.0 accord is correct. don't worry. engine mounts are wear and tear, they need to get replaced every so often.

Engine mounts are also purposely given a limited life span to guarantee future money back to the delearships

I have replaced all engine and tranny mounts in the past 10k miles, tranny mounts were not covered under tranny warranty either.

Can you show me the picture of the broken engine mount, and how do you check to see if engine mount is broken or not?

engine mounts needing to be replaced it actually a very common thing on the CL/TL especially with their design.

I just had my tranny replaced today and they told me that my engine mount and tranny mount was busted, extended warranty for the transmission will not cover the mounts because it is normal wear/tear.

The other guy on here who got his tranny replaced had his mounts replaced for free by the dealer got lucky. Unfortunetly I have to have mine replaced too.

Gives me a reason to do the polyurethane mount mod. and ETD.

i know. same thing happened to me when i had them replace their faulty tranny about a year and a half ago. i'm pretty sure bad trannies do their part to contribute in breaking or wearing down motor mounts.

does anyone know of any obvious signs of a busted mount?

In my experiences, last time it happened I actually guessed that a motor mount was F'ed up. All I did was take a look under the hood when the engine was running. There was a considerable amount of extra vibration going on due to the metal on metal on action. It even seemed like my hood shook more when it was down, especially at certain rpms.

Funny, I was going to search Google for a more mechanical/physical explanation, I actually found this right near the top as a question asked on a Google Answers site. Wonder if this person is on the board?

I found out that I have two broken motor mounts when I had my 60k service at an Acura Dealer and also had it verified thru another mechanic I know and he showed me the signs. Apparently it is very common on CL/TL for them to break and these oem mounts are weak in the first place and its the same ones that break on our cars. He showed me how much my engine jumps forward when the accelerator is pressed and that's a sign.

Yes you would definitely be able to tell if, say you dyno'ed your car. I had felt what seemed like extra front surge while accelerating when they were busted, but didn't know if it was just in my head! Lolerz thanks for confirming.

Of course they do, they're designed for a 3.0 Accord. I'm sick of them going out after 10k miles.

my front has been broken and i just put a new one in couple days ago at the shop, and now today i was hearing squeeking so i threw it up on the lift and my rear mount is broken as well...

1 way to check to see if the mounts are broke is (for auto owners) do the simple N-D-N-D-N-D and u wil feel the engine move back and forth back and forth.. another one is hold down the break, and put ur car in Drive and press the gas Lightly and u will feel the big knock as the engine bounces up...
