My Fun Times at the Dealership

1)They used duct tape on my car to check for a wind noise complaint I had for the passenger side rear view mirror. Of course they didn't clean off the tape glue. Have they heard of blue tape?

2)Apparently tire rotations involve just swapping tires from rear to front on the same side. Previously stolen valve covers proved this.

3)2003's, according to the mechanic and service advisor have less troubles with the transmission and they have beefier rotors than earlier models.

4)All else is fine assuming of course they did indeed change the oil, inspect crap and top off fluids with the correct fluid. At the very least I got a $99.95 car wash and vacuum.

5)The people were friendly.

6)I will use a hidden camera next time.

I always try to ask a bunch of questions and listen in.

I was told a X rotation is preferred. Oh well.

I am still annoyed I feel I have to get my car detailed every time I go to the dealership.

passenger side rear view mirror
It's on the passenger side, it looks toward the rear and it's a mirror, never said the passenger uses it. :P

Thread hijackers need to be reported to homeland security too.

well it's sortof an X-rotation...typically it goes like this...

Right Rear to Right Front
Left Rear to Left Front

Right Front to Left Rear
Left Front to Right Rear

so the fronts cross to the backs, while the backs simply move up to the fronts on the same side

with uni-directionals, there is no crossing

Are the stock tires on our cars directional? If so, there will be no crossing over...like Scooter said.

hey which dealership did you take it to in WA?

Our fam has purchased two Acuras from Acura of Bellevue and they seem to be pretty damn good with their service department.

I'm getting my 15,000 mile today too. I'll let you know the outcome of my service.

no,

however you should end up shifting as Scooter so nicely listed for us

around 7,500miles or so for a balanced wear

I'm trying to figure out how you can tell the tire rotation from missing valve cap(s)? Also, they should have put on new caps after checking the tire pressure. YMMV

$99 for a oil change and tire rotation?? WOW...damn!

I change the oil by myself and you don't even need a jack. And tire rotation....barrow another person's emergency jack and using yours also, lift up one side at a time and rotate the tires yourself.

true you can save some money by doing a lot of the regularly scheduled maint yourself. But when it comes time to sell your car you won't have receipts that say you performed oil changes every 3k-4k miles and the schedule 15k mile maint. I do it for resale reasons...chances are people will pay more money for a used car if it had regular maint done to it (w/ proof).

Also if you do have problems with the car that requires warranty work, they won't hassle you for not doing maint.

I had chrome valve covers stolen on just one side of the car -the side that is in shadow of the car port light. I replaced those with the orginal black plastic covers -no reason to fight a losing battle.

Well technically it was a 7500 mile service. Supposedly they check the brakes, check for unusual wear, etc.

They did clean up the goobers. The service advisor was very apologetic. Acura of Seattle BTW.

I went to the Acura dealership in Farmington Hills, MI for 30K service on a 2002 cls. $417 dollars and they forgot to put washer fluid in it and did even attempt to vacuum it even though I asked twice.

If u don't have Directional tires, than an X rotation is preferred. If you have directional tires like some of u, U can't do an X.

As much as I dislike paying $100 for an oil change and wash, I completely agree that you'll pay more if a problem crops up and you have to "convince" the dealer you did all of the necessary service. I would bet you would be referred to their corporate bean counters where you wouldn't stand a chance in hell of getting warranty work done. JMHO
