My engine exploded.

Yup, I'm the latest victim of the "M3 w/Blown Engines club".

If you guys haven't already heard, the new E46 M3 is having quite a problem with blown engines. There are literally hundreds of M3 owners with blown engines.

Sadly, I only have 3200 miles on mine before the engine let go.

My dealer says that he can't even give me an estimate on the repair, because the M3 engines are back ordered.

Looks like it will be out of commision for at least a couple of months.

When the M3 is fixed, I'm putting it up for sale.

And in November, I'm getting the Infiniti G35 Coupe, with the 18" wheels/6 speed manual/Navi.

Oh, here's a link to a web page dedicated to blown M3 engines. It even has a couple of vidoes of M3 owners actually blowing their engines. Check out the guy road racing. The camera in the Porsche behind him captures his engine blowing....

Silver, just like my CL-S, and nearly every other car I've ever owned....

My G35 will also be silver

Well, other than this happening, the only other thing that has EVER happened to one of my cars is my CL-S being totalled.

And if you remember, MY BROTHER HAD IT AT THE TIME!

That was the last time I let him borrow my car!

I dunno, maybe I do have bad luck with my cars. But the M3 wasn't a surpise to me. I was sorta waiting for it to happen. I've been following the reports for months now.

Seems BMW has a serious problem on their hands with these new engines.

TOM, I am VERY sorry to hear that...I can't beleive your engine went...I'm sure you weren't an abusive driver either...

I am glad that I chose to sell my spot, an smg with a blown motor is far more than I want to get into with my next car...

Well, if BMW makes good on the new engine, I can't do the lemon law. From what I understand, even if the car is out of commission beyond the lemon law limits, I can't win a dispute beause the new engine is not readily available.

I'm not on the list. It just happened Friday.....

But I'm definitely going to contact them to add my M3 to the list.

I was so fuckin' pissed all weekend, but I'm pretty much over it now

Anyway, thanks for all the kind words, everybody......

Actually, I want to drive a 6 speed CL-S. If I like the way it feels/drives, I'll consider it.

But I saw the G35 coupe at the NY Auto Show and LOVED it.

Tom, this doesn't sound right to me, I've lemon lawed 2 cars successfully. One was out of my posession for a month while waiting for a major part. I live in PA, but I can't imagine NY being so different.

And to think the M3 was one of my favorite cars! In fact, I've been upgrading the CL-S to try to avoid some of the "M3 cravings" I've been having lately. I scratched a $50k+ itch with about $4k. No blown engines, just a fun car to drive that's paid for and looks pretty hot IMO!
Thanks for the info and link on the blown engines for the M3.

Yeah definitely test out the 6spd! It ought to feel pretty good...especially with sways and a lowering job. The G35 will definitely be a great car! One that will most likely sell quickly since there are already a large amount of people waiting for it to come out. Any way you go, let us know what you do!

Everyone that I know that owns a BMW has problems w/it, and there still considered the shit , I dont understand.
My sis 318 window broke 3 times in 2 weeks, and her instrament panel dont light up no more..
My friends BMW 330 says its goind 70MPH when parked and his electonics was fucked, on his prev328 you had to slam the door for the windows to roll up ..WTF?
But the best is one of my friends had his 325 airbag just deploy on him while driving on the highway breaking his nose, and happen once after that..
So BMW put him #1 on waiting list foir M3 for his trouble, but his engin blew also, no he selling it when he gets it back..
Shit been at BMW for 3 weeks now..
I dont understand what these arogent fools think is soo great about BMW other then mechanical failures all the time , expecially with the electonics!

First let me say that it absolutely sucks that the engine blew.
It also sucks that the wait is going to be long.

That being said, this thread has one of the most compelling titles on the board.

Looks like the engine reved to 8460rpms!

I'm not sure what the second line says though, maybe the time at that rpm. 13+ sec

Since the engine can only sustain a constant 7800rpms, that is not good

I see max rev in rpm, a duration of 13 seconds spent above normal max rev (7800), vehicle's max speed in km, something left, something right, min temp, max temp, and some other temp.

edit - beaten to it sorta.

zeroday-

I dunno. I'll have to look into the NY lemon law a little more. But I was under the impression that if the dealer can't fix the car on time and it was no fault of their own, then I can't do the lemon law.

soopa-

Yeah, I assume you heard about the early X5's catching fire because of the cooling fan? More than a few people had their house catch fire because of that shit.

BC-

Believe it or not, I was just cruisin' around. Not even being hard on the car, although I was pretty hard on it at other times

BSK181-

They gave me a 325 (4 door automatic)

You'd be expected to get on it every now and then...I bet she sounds good.

Astro- did you sell because of the blown engines? When are you getting that 360?

Does this all mean that Acura can now have the title for "Highest Horsepower output N/A 3.2L engine that Doesn't blow up"????

I think this proves that a Bimmer is worth the %30 premium over Acura!
