My Dream for the CL....

We all know it's gone, but I would love to see Acura put the CL engineering team on a mission to make a super-strong and RELIABLE tranny for the 01-03 CL-S Auto with better gear ratios (especially 4th )that makes the car a BEAST, then send out recall letters with an announcement that we are all eligible and to set up install appts, free of charge.

There is NO question in my mind that Acura has not done a FUCKING THING about changing ANYTHING in this transmission and something needs to be done about it.

The result of such an action on the part of Acura? Perhaps save a few loyal customers from straying away to other brands....better resale for those of us who are stuck with the pile of shit 5 speed tranny, and better performance and peace of mind knowing that we actually have an IMPROVED tranny.

Just my .02....I'm appalled by this transmission issue.

the tranny issue was one of the main desiding factors in me getting rid of my CL-S. i felt that it was nothing more than a ticking time bomb. i mean im sorry that i, god forbid, liked to drive my CL-S in a spirited manner. im sorry that i wanted to modify it to pump out some more HP......too bad Acura couldnt have made a tranny capable of handling the stock HP, let alone the extra ponies that things like headers and intakes offer.

after seeing pics of peoples CL-S and TL-S that got wrecked in highway accidents due to the tranny downshifting to 2nd at 70-80 mph, that was it, i do not want to ride in a death trap, thank you very much.

and SHAME on acura for constantly lying. i was told by the dealer that the tranny problem was fixed for the 02 model year....

guess what, it was a lie

also we were ALL told the auto tranny was fixed for the 03 model year

that also was a lie, as proven by the fact that most 03 auto's are included in the free 100k warranty.

also, we were given bullshit explainations for the problems, lowball estimates of failure rates and no TRUE solution to the problem

the only thing that theyve done is lie, lie, lie, backpedal, lie, lie and finally offer the warranty. in addition, the only "fix" they have is to issue a rebuilt POS tranny with an alledgedly DETUNED ECU that probably takes the stock power output to somewhere at or below the new 03 accord 3.0.

owning the acura was so bitter sweet, i loved the car, its power, its rarity on the roads, the looks i got, the races i won, the props i got from people, but the tranny thing was such a disaster.

I can relate I'm on my 4th mutherfuckin transmission!!!!!!!!!!
I think I have had the most tranny replacements. I have blown at least 13 transmissions. I am not proud either. I am only 22 yrs old. I had bought a brand new 98 passat v6 fully loaded with tiptronic. That tranny blew at 7K, then I got a loaner Jetta with 400 miles, I blew that tranny the first night

Woops I accidentally submitted that before I was done. Anyways the VW dealer banned me from ever getting another loaner car. My brother had a subaru SVX I blew that tranny before I even had a liscense. Get this the car wouldn't go in reverse, it would only go forward, A group of pimps (13th st.NW) had to come and push the car. They were still runnin the block while they were helping me out. "BITCH bring me my Paper" Due to my past tranny problems which were a direct result of my driving, people always blame the tranny problems in the cl on me.

It's a sad day when our transmission problems are so bad that we overlook the other glaringly obvious shortcomings that include poor braking and terrible paint.

I haven't had much trouble with the brakes (i'm just over 60k and the rotors are warping slightly, but it's not that bad), but the paint... ARGH. I have chips all OVER my car. Our paint is so thin. And dont' get me started on the places the clearcoat is beginning to bubble.

I think the tranny solution should be this: Acura recalls all of the automatic trannies and offers either a beefed up transmission, or a 6 speed swap.
