my certified cl...some questions for you guys

its only been a week since ive had my 01 acura certified cls. i read a carfax report that the dealer gave me and it stated that it was first purchased in new york. i just noticed that some bolts on the underside of the car look like their covered with rust. now i know that since its certified it comes with a one year bumper to bumper warranty and i also purchased the extended 7 year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper coverage. Just wanted to know if any of you guys know whether my warranty will cover such damage from rust. any input will be helpful. i wanna get ur opinions on this before i call the dealer up
thanks

Here's what Honda's Warranty says about rust:

Rust Perforation Limited Warranty

Only the vehicle’s owner can make a claim under this warranty. Coverage cannot be transferred to any other person or institution (such as an insurance company). Time and Mileage Period This warranty’s coverage begins on the same date as the New Vehicle Limited Warranty (see page 11), and continues for 5 years with no mileage limit. Any body panels repaired or replaced under this warranty are covered only for the time remaining in the original 5 years of coverage. Warranty Coverage Acura will repair or replace any original body panel that rusts completely through from the inside out (perforated by corrosion). This includes panels previously repaired or replaced under this warranty. Rust that does not perforate, but is caused by a defect in material or workmanship, is covered under the New Car Limited Warranty. You will not be charged for any parts, material, or labor under this warranty. The decision to repair, rather than replace, any rusted body panel will be made by Acura.

This Warranty Does Not Cover:

Surface rust on the underbody or any other part of the vehicle except body panels.
Rusting of body panels that were repaired, replaced, or refinished after retail sale of the
vehicle, unless those panels were repaired or replaced under this warranty.
Body panel rust caused by abuse, misuse, or lack of maintenance.
Rusting where the paint has been damaged by road hazards such as stones and debris.

I hope this warranty information helps.

Why are you worried about surface rust on the bolts? Not going to cause a problem, is it?

Light surface rust is nothing to worry about. This is very common on cars from the East Coast. I think the warranty is more if it starts to corrode things.

Check the spare tire and jack to be sure that they are tight. My jack handle came loose and drove me nuts in my RX7 until I found it.
