im hoping its something stupid.... right now shes stuck in the middle of no where waiting for a tow truck.... she said she tried to start the car, and it wont even start or make the starting sound.... my battery was bad from the start, im really hoping its the battery...but the lights still can turn on both interior and exterior...... from what i heard, the car was running fine, then i thnk the "engine light" or something came on (they werent too clear)...then they pulled over and turned the car off, then it wouldtn turn back on.... any one had a similar prob? thanks

Flux capacitors probably burnt out. It's on the firewall on the same side as the battery. You can tell if it's burnt out by looking at it, it will be a dark gray/black color.

hmm..its on the way to honda right now.... im stuck at work.... so theyll have a look at it.
also, when my fiancee tried to start the car. it didnt even fire up at all or make that ignition starting sound...it made like a humming sound only.....
i do regular oil changes / maintanence on the car..the last one done was like less then 4 months ago i think. the car was driving and from what i heard the "engine" light came on, so he pulled over to see what it was...turned off the engine.... then tried to restart and it didnt fire up no more...the lights still work
miles is 112,500...and it didnt over heat .

Hope so too! I mean if the interior lights still work it could still be the battery. Other than that who knows, the engine is so electronic, only a tech could tell u if it is not visible from under the hood

but yea, the interior and exterior lights work...so im not too sure... from the research i did so far, it doesnt sound like the tranny .... my fiancee said the tow truck driver told her it sounds like the timing belt? the car ran smooth ... its suppose to sound like ur car is about to explode if its the belt right? because it ran smooth then all of a sudden they said it felt like there was no gas left ( i had half tank still)

If it felt like there was no gas left but you had a half tank, how about a fuel pump? That would effectively be running dry.

Or your alt or fuel pump too. By the way how many miles is on the car? From the vague description u gave us I really cant tell u too much. Whatever it is it could be a whole lot worse, u can think about it that way. Just cross ur fingers its not to major

youre rite man.... its the timing belt.... its sitting in honda right now, they said it needs new valves, and new heads..... ....
i dont know if i really need a new head though.... from what my buddy told me it should only need new valves? anyone had a timing belt bust on them? thanks
#25
yea.... tell me about it... honda is telling me the parts alone would cost near 3k.... but thats with changing the two heads.... my buddy told me that his timing belt blew before too, but he only needed to change out the valves....he said the head shouldnt be damaged...but i dont know why honda told me i need to change them both out??
#26
were you past 105-120K in milage?
the reason they said new heads is that acura techs do not rebuild engines per sae they would just replace the whole head (prolly cheaper than having acura rebuild it, or replace parts on it.

Man, just buy a used motor from a junkyard for probably 500 bucks. You can have a local shop probably install it for around 4-600 dollars. My uncle owns a junkyard Hyattsville Md that has a motor if thats anywhere close to you. The dealer is going to rape you for at least 3k.

wait, Honda is telling you $3k for the rebuild?! a friend of mine blew his motor after having a dyno shop tune it with laughing gas (he was driving home). He had to replace 5 of the 6 pistons (yup.. One was good), All the rods, both heads (spark plugs melted to the heads), all the valves, cams..... Pretty much a new motor. With the work for $2600 about 2 years ago.

um..all the 24 valves are bent.... my mechanic said in that case the head is probably damaged....its better off to get a new motor.... so im seeing if anyone on here is selling a 2001 acura cl-s motor? im from san francisco, any recommendations on local areas? thanks

Im pretty sure all the 01-03 CLS long blocks are the same. Just a few differences with throttle body and such with the manual vs auto but you can use yours off the blown motor if its not the same. Have you tried to contact salvage yards around the area? That would be my first move. Im sure a used parts yard should have a motor within a few hours drive. These motors are strong as long as you maintain them, so if you do get a used one you may want to think about doing a TB before the install if you dont know what the miles are or if it was done before. Good Luck man!

....now... how many miles on the new---er cls? Some peeps say you should change the TB on GP after a certain age.. no matter the mileage...so if ur new cls' TB hasnt been changed... you might consider it...
.... I got to around 128k on my 1st belt bf I changed it, but that was just because I had to!!!!
