Mugen and Thermoblock in Cold Climates

I was very eager to do these mods since they are simple DIY, but then I began to see little warnings that these may cause CELs in colder climates. Well in NY it is safe to say we go below freezing for a good part of the winter. I heard certain people throwing CELs while others have no problems. I would guess the ill side effects would have a greater chance of occuring if both mods were done. I would appreciate any input from those in the colders climates with both of these mods.

I guess I will be doing the UR crank first.

ur is a good first mod...you should also atleast remove your lower resontator and drop in a K&N...the thermoblok will have 0 ill effects in cold weather...it's only the TB bypass of coolant you'll wanna think about with regaurds to that mod...im fairly certain the mugen Tstat will also not be an issue..i have the spoon which is another 20+ colder, though im in florida...BTW i have the mugen tstat sitting on my bench along with the 80*C fan switch

I live in Chicago and have both the mugen cooling mods and thermoblock spacers installed without any problems. Have never had a CEL.

I also installed the TB coolant bypass for this summer but will change it back to normal for the winter.

good move these are the next best bang for the buck mods...you should see gains = to that of the headers,or atleast very close to it for less than 500$

If you throw a CEL from the Mugen mods it isn't anything of importance. Just the ECU thinks the engine isn't warming up quickly enough. Clear it and go along with your driving. Or you could just remove them in November - March.

exactly what i wanted to know. i wasn't sure if there was actually a problem or it is just the ecu being stupid. in my last car i had a full custom turbo and the CEL was on 24/7... ended up taking the bulb out .
