Mud Flaps: Are they functional or should I toss em?

Well guys,

I have seen a lot of you on here take your mudflaps off... It does look good, but my question is... Do you get a lot of road crap/mud kicked up on your doors/skirts? I wouldn't be able to stand that especially since it rains at least once a week here in ATL

I was thinking of painting mine, so maybe I will take them off to see how it looks without them for a while. Also, how easy are they to paint... Where can I get a spray can of SMR? Acura? or do I need to go to a paint shop? Here is a pic w/mudflaps on.

they look fine and work great. It's also a courtesy to other drivers because it could prevent rocks from hitting their windscreens.

They keep rocks from chipping the paint on your lower doors and side skirts. They shouldn't be that difficult to paint since they are just screwed on to the fender well.

I added mine a few weeks after I bought my car new. I only got them because my car is black and they are hardly noticeable. Yes they help a tiny bit but not a whole lot.

As far as painting goes you can't just grab a can of spray paint and go at it. You need to have special type of paint mixed to your color. I forget the name of it, but its designed for plastics. If you don't use this paint your mudguards will chip and crack in no time at all

It's a special flex additive made for flexible rubber parts. Any body shop can add this when they get sprayed. They help with stock tires/rims. You get wider tires/rims & they don't help much. More for looks.
