sry if this is a repost, but all the messages I have heard from acura have said the new navi disc would have 3 million points of interest, I just called again today and the message said 7.7 million points of interest...quite a difference, which one is right?

But if “someone” should “attempt” to make a “backup” copy for themselves, what would be the correct format for the blank DVD?
-R or +R?

DVD-R's are only single layer (4.7GB)...the Alpine Navi discs are dual layer (9.4GB), so I would figure that the Acura ones are too. you will only be able to copy half of the disc on one DVD-R.

i just checked my Alpine Navi disc and it is about 6.7GB.
yes almost all movies are dual layer and you can make it fit on a single layer dvd-r by reducing the video quality or removing extra features....but there is no magical program that will make it fit on a single layer without sacrificing something.
in the case of the navi disc, perhaps you can reduce the map image quality some, but i dont see that shrinking it down by 2gigs. the rest of the data would be all the points of interest and data which cannot be reduced. maybe you can leave out parts of the country that you dont ever drive to? who knows.
if it can be done without losing any information, i would like to know how this is accomplished.

You don't have to do anything special.
+R
-R
They both work just fine. It can be done without losing any information.
It is illegal to burn and sell...for the record.

I made a backup of my old Navi disc...it worked just fine for awhile until later when it got hotter and more humid in Kansas. Then I was getting like 25% errors on start-up (error: no disk found). Once it started up, it was fine...until the next time.
I don't have the latest Navi DVD version slated for Fall 2003....yet.

Three Wheelin'
I am definately buying the next disc when it comes out. I hope soon.
Depending on the data size, I will make a backup since I have to pay so friggin much for it.
They make us wait 2 years and still have the nerve to charge sooo much.
