Modding a High Mileage CLS

Hey to all of you enthusiasts I have an 01 Silver Cl type S it has almost 120,000 miles on it already. I haven't done anything to it yet and was wondering if this is to many miles to start to play with it or if I should go ahead and do it??

I am not real knowlegeable on cars and was wondering what exactly to do and in what order?

You're fine. Just do some basic starter mods:

Intake - Comptech, AEM, Injen
Exhaust (axle back) - Comptech - you may need this soon anyway if your stock exhaust starts to rust out
Crank pulley - Unorthodox Racing
Headers - Comptech or DC Sports; there are other brands and you can do your own research on them but I don't trust them (Megan Racing, XS Power)
Rotors - you may need these; if you want OEM replacements just get Brembo blanks; if you want some performance rotors, i.e. slotted, go with ROTORA

Higher miles mean nothing, I have 97,000 on my car and it runs better than 95% of peoples cars with 30,000 miles on it.

It just depends on how you take care of it, now adays all higher miles mean is more wear and tear on the interior and the paint isn't as good.

Mechanically, our engines hold up great, just keep an eye on the timing belt and you will be great for years to come.

Best thing to do is to take the car to Sears, they will do Free suspension and brake check(since you said your not car savy), this will help you pinpoint any problems that may be lurking and should be your first things to look into "Modding" up.

Mileage does mean nothing for mods, however your tranny is now not covered if it goes. With over 100K miles I'd be getting rid of it.

bolt ons like intake and headers won't harm you car at all. If anything they'll improve it no matter how many miles you have on it.

I've got 136K on my 03 CL-S with a Comptech Intake and still going strong.

I want headers badly, but got other priorities first.

Good luck.

im not sure since you have an auto and no warranty coverage. if you dont care about the above mentioned. headers, intake, thermoblock spacers, and Ur crank pulley should get the job done.

I think you should start with clearing the headlights, then do suspension, headers, and CAI. You might need different wheels when you are ready to drop it though.

Only thing I recommend Sears for is Craftsman Tools.

Sears has an automotive center as well. Some have them, some probably don't. Only one in my area, so I can't really compare. Haven't done anything there yet, but their alignments seem to be cheap.

Ya ming, they have a service center for ones in my area. They are suprisingly honest, thats rare when it comes to car. They will do a free suspension, brake, fluid, and tire check for free, because they are under the assumption that if they find a problem, they will be the ones to fix it. So they tell you the problem and you just fix it on your own.

Sears is not a place I would personally trust with my car.

But I also realize that I'm more particular than most.
