Modded CLS gets ass handed by stock GTP?

Well, I went to the raced last night with Jimcol and his buddy came along with his stock gtp. I raced him at least three times and could not beat him. Keep in mind the I have AEM CAI, AEM Pulleys and headers.
Everytime we launched, he was bustin low 2.1 '60 times to my 2.3+. If you would look at his 330 ft times they were 6.05. Very quick.
So, what's going on? Why is this guy a car length ahead of me by the time I shift into 2nd gear. The low end torque of the supercharger?

Here is my best run last night vesus his.

Me Him
RT .664 .763
60 2.314 2.133
330 6.355 6.051
1/8 9.600 9.337
MPH 75.96 75.12
1000 12.425 12.158
1/4 14.799 14.554
MPH 95.33 93.75

What can I do to improve my 330 time? And is this just a freakestly fast GTP?

Side note, my check engine light has been on for about a month, so I am wondering if that is having an effect on performance. It will be getting look at Monday.

Yeah, take a look at the speeds... your car starts pulling once you get going doesn't it. All your time is lost in the first 60-feet, definitely a result of torque and traction. Are you getting much tire-spin?

Man you need to work on your launch, and you'll be in the low 14's.

And how exactly do I work on my launches in an automatic? To be in the low 14's based on my runs, I would need a 1.8 60 time. That is not very easy to do in a FWD car.

I found out what the issue was with my check engine light. I had pretty low voltage with my battery, low enough to keep the CEL on for a good 2 weeks. So they they recharged it and I am back to normal. Additionally, I had the 30K tune up stuff done, so it should be running a little better!

By the way, I am running stock tires.

Quick question, doesn't voltage play a role in spark plug intensity or have something to do with the actual amount of spark that is fired? Just wondering.

Thanks.

How did you come to that number? I ran a 14.302 @98.69 w/a 60' time of 2.248. If you're pulling 1.8s you're mostly like pulling 11s or very low 12s

Launching a CLS:

Always turn off VSA. If you're getting decent traction just WOT and go. If you're not getting traction then punch it to 75-80% for a split second and then go WOT.

After turning VSA off .....

D5, SS, or gate shift?

Torque brake or none?

I have not been to the track, but gate shifting with no torque brake seems the fastest. How much initial throttle/wheel spin depends on the conditions.

14.79 on a 2.35 60 time.

to run a 14.3 , "low 14 sec run", in would need to make up the difference in the 60 time, because my car ain't getting any faster. To run faster all things equal, you NEED a faster 60 time. SO, I would need to shave off .49 sec off my 60 time. 2.35-.49 = 1.86. A 1.8 sec 60 time.

This was my rational when I said a 1.8 sec 60 would be needed.

Hope this clears up what I said,

Brian

your friends GTP is not stock...sounds like he has gotten a smaller pulley effectivly raising the boost from his S/C you couldnt tell by looking at it go from 4 inches to 3.5 and add 50+ hp/lb.ft.

btw i have a friend that has the smaller pulley and i regular;y spank him...

type R,

i can say beyond a shadow of a doubt, the guys GTP is STOCK as STOCK can be...hes been my freind for life and he bought his GTP about a year ago, and he wants to mod it really bad but he is dead broke and cant even afford the 60 buck pulley....i really wish for OUR sake (guys with CL-S) that it was stock, but ive known this guy since we were born and i know his car well, and it is completely 100% stock....the fact is that GTP have alot more torque than our car and it seems thats why they kill us...even in stock form....there are guys that over on CLUBGP that have posted timeslips LOWER than 14.5 with a STOCK GTP!!! this freind of mine was as shocked as we were when his car was running that fast. he thought for sure he was toast against my stock CL-S and brians modded CL-S....all i can say is WATCH OUT FOR GTP'S THEY WILL SMOKE US!!!

First,,, Mike:

Judging from your time of 14.3 and the 98mph, you are running some different mods and making more power than the original poster. I maybe wrong but thats my guess. You are 3mph higher at the finish, thats pretty big in the 1/4.

If Roell had a 60' of even 2.2, that would .9 difference and at the finish that would about .15-.20 difference, making him close to the 14.5-14.6 range. Roell you have good power, but your running outta steam. You could try an exhaust, but be careful cause you power curve may change from low end to high end with no real change in time. Need to get a good proven system for you car. I am not all that familiar with Acura go faster mods.

Stock GTP do run 14.5-14.7's. Ran vs them at Carlsbad.

Roell a very respectable time you have there, nice job.

always vsa off
ss get on it
ss brake torque
d3 get on it
d3 bt
gate shift get on it
you get the picture

i do best ss brake torque 1800-2000 rpm

the only shift you can miss is 2/3

its not brand new, its a 1998 2 door GTP with 51,000 miles on it, its not a GTX either, as those are quite rare..thats a expensive package from a company called SLP engineering, you actually have to buy a regular GTP then ship it to somewhere in Michigan where they do the mods...its a functional ram air hood/quasi CAI, high-flow cat back exhaust, aggressive spoiler, and the badges...its like 2,700 bucks for that...they also offer other options with it such as wheels and racing stripes and shit, but thats at a high premium..the GTX package only adds about 25 HP from the claims of the SLP website, so that would give it 265 HP and probably a tiny bit more torque. and aside from that, the previous owner was a middle aged business man that leased it and played alot of golf (we know this cause when we put his stereo in we kept finding golf tees under the back seats and under the carpet and shit) so theres no way that it was previously modded before he got it...its just a bone stock 14.5 second GTP...no bones about it. im sure some of the GTP'ers down there would love to go against you, however most of the GTP'ers on the clubGP are pretty modded and would smoke you pretty bad...most guys run consistant 13's with just a few hundred in mods....

sorry to break it to you, but the GTP's are faster than CL-S...stock vs. stock....GTP.....modded vs modded....VERRRRY EASY WIN for GTP....our CL-S are nicer cars, for sure...but you will lose to a "pos american car like that" maybe not every STOCK GTP runs 14.5 but that seems to be the average....whats the average STOCK CL-S time?? 15.0??
