well i am very disappointed with my car

some old guy in his black 02 330 attempts to race me well off the line i get a little tire screech he gets the jump but i quickly pull on him

so now we get to a long part of the road and i slow down and he gets about even with me we both gun it and just as i expected my baby pulls ahead by at least 2 car length BUT wait what do i see creeping to the right side of me??? that fuckin 330 and he zooms right pass me

no NOS
no turbo
no supercharger

Those 330s are pretty torquey and they have better gearing....should have brought him to 80 and jammed the pedal....VTEC love from 80-110.....the BMW wouldn't be close.

 

wtf we should be able to beat it unless its 4th gear is more powerful

 

it'd help if you'd talk about what speed?

 

i want to say i was at or around 103-110 mph

I've raced my old 5A CL-S against a 330 up a steep hill & from 80- 110 (actually about 108 in 3rd gear) the CL-S devoured a 330.

 

as long your in 2nd or 3rd in a cl-s its all good but 4th can be a disaster

 

Well, I actually have several experiences gunning up with a 330.

My friend got a 2002 330ci 5 m/t in the summer of '02. When I got my '03 CL-S 5 A/T, we knew there would have to be some tests.

Everyone knows the BMW can pull off the line w/ it's rwd. That being said....

I was kinda surprised the power he had at 90mph through 120. His car, the 330ci, simply moved all over me. I'll be honest, around 115, I noticed my stock CL-S with automatic move up a bit on him, but he was already a car length ahead---

At 130 something, he hit his limiter, and then I passed him up!!! ATLEAST that felt good.

A stock, manual 330ci is a pretty nasty car... but of course there are nastier ones, I don't want to go there---

maybe I was in the wrong gear?? I don't know. Starting at 90 I was in 4th, and can't remember if it shifted under WTO. think it shifted have shifted into 3rd? what do you think?

 

3rd s/b good up to about 108 mph in the 5A. You have to race him from a roll though 'cause the stock 215's don't offer a lot of bite.

 

All of the 330s are 6 speeds, the auto and the manual. They have better gearing at higher speeds. Once you hit 4th (OD) in the CL, it's all over.

 

No they arent. The 2001-2003 had 5-speed manuals and 5-speed auto. The 2004 was the first to have a 6-speed manual and auto offered.


Anywho A stock CLS wont pull on a stock 330. Unless the CLS had headers or was a 6-speed, then it would be a drivers race. IMO

I would stop racing at redline in 3rd. 4th is worthless.

 

I don't know why people think 330s are dogs.

For what they're rated at (225hp) they're quick.

 

If you started at 90 then you were definitely in fourth because the car will not shift to third at that speed.

And yeah, the 330s are not dogs at all! Although I do enjoy beating on 325s and 328s. I've beaten a 330 before but I have headers and icebox so a little unfair. I do like those 330ci's though!

 

we know your an auto, but was he an auto, or a manual? racing a manual with your auto, from a roll is pretty dumb, if you ask me. Also, what mods if any do both of you have? what is the outcome of the race, when you both go from a dig? sorry for all the questions........
