mod questions

I just purchased my CL on Saturday. I am interested in making more power with it. Where is the most value in this? I have read claims by Comptech to make great power with there headers. However $1200.00 is a large investment with some reassurance. What have you guys noticed, with your mods?

In addition, i should say I traded in a RSX type S to get this car. I tried modding it and lost luxury. I also never really felt any gains.

There's OBX headers for around $350, but they are not a direct fit. But, maybe they could fit with a little help from a muffler shop. Was done by a first gen CL recently, so maybe it's possible with the 6 speed too.

hmmm I'd say keep your bad ass 1100XX for the speed and keep your CLS for the luxury... you'll generally lose the luxury feel once you move towards the sporty feel... the RSX S is a great platform for mods and you can get huge gains from some of the turbo kits that are coming out right now... the CLS is not really a good platform for big power... I think at best you'll be looking at mid 13 second times if you dish out 6K or so and get everything Comptech makes... not a bad deal but nothing along the lines of what the RSX could be doing... basically what you have now is a much heavier car (3500 lbs or so) with some good V6 tq and hp numbers... get the headers from whichever company you feel most comfortable with, then get the CT supercharger and you'll be happy I tihnk... other than that there have been people on the board that did a 3.5L conversion as well as some that have done full port and polish on their intake manifolds etc... we're not heavily support by the aftermarket like your RSX S was b/c there's not really a lot of CL owners in the world considering that it's only for sale here in the North America...

About headers, I'm in the same boat you are... OBX doesn't make 6 speed headers and I don't feel like going and getting then and having the bend put in the pipe b/c it just wasn't made to be bent there... if you add a bend of the size that I noticed on the CTs then you might have issues of it fitting right b/c you're not really adding any material, just sorta stretching out the material you already have...

As far as feeling gains lots of people praise the headers and rightfully so... the CTs have been proven time and time again to give 30 hp which is a significant increase... also the cold air intakes seem to show 10 or so hp/tq ... the Comptech Ice Box that is now in production says it makes more power... I think the problem with your RSX S maybe is that on a 4 cylinder opening up the airflow a bit isn't gonna give huge gains... not so with the CLS...

Go all comptech. I wouldn't waste money on something else, especially on a 03 that will void your warranty.
Comptech keeps the warranty.

Why do people keep calling the Comptech’s the “1200-dollar headers”?
Dean is selling them for 1075 SHIPPED and no TAX if you’re not in FL.

I got mine for 999 SHIPPED, but the price went up after the initial offer.

1075 is worth the extra power on the 6-Speed and it won’t take away any of the luxury aspects of the car.
When you start screwing with suspension & Wheels, that’s when the ride starts getting rough.

He said investment...

To me that would also include the instalation.

Our cars are not worth mod'n IMO. Especially after spending the money on it myself.

However, the headers and intake do add some HP to the wheels. Just not worth the $1500-$1800 for 35hp to wheels In no way shape or form.

I agree, but everyone is comparing them to the OBX ones at 340, which DOESN’T include install either.

Let’s compare APPLES to APPLES here folks.

Last I heard was mid October timeframe which is next week.
I know Dean said that he has quite a few on pre-order.

Check out the Comptech section of the Forum.

Retail is 4,500 and I think Dean said he’s selling them for 3,900 shipped.

a lot depends on how much you wanna spend.
I'd say if you wanna go nuts:
go with a Comptech Supercharger that will add about 100 hp at the wheels.(you'll be running with a Mustang Cobra and Camero SS) but the thing is it's about 4000 bucks plus installation.
if your on 1/2 way decent budget
go with Comptech headers or wait on Prototype headers . the prices are about the same but the Prototypes aren't out yet(we've been waiting for awhile)(personally i feel the Prototypes will be as good if not better than the Comptechs) so it depends on how soon you wanna mod your car. the power gain your looking at is 25-30 HP on both sets for about 1000 bucks plus installation
if you on a tight budget:
AEM cold air intake.as far as dollar to power it's hard to beat the AEM cold air intake. you'll pickup 10-15 HP for 250 bucks plus installation and everyone on here loves their cold air intake.
another option is if your into cornering go with Comptech sways, springs and a set of Toyos.

this is not totally true

it depends on the dealership. Some dealership does not give a rats ass what u put on the car or mod to a certain extent. and others will try to make your mods the cause of any problems you have with the car i.e. your tranny broke but its because of the aftermarket intake
