"Moan" from '02 CL-S
"Moan" from '02 CL-S
I was working on the Mustang the other night parked next to my CLS when I heard a "moan" come from under the car. It sounds like some sort of small pump and the pitch changes as if it is getting a load put on it. It only stays on for about a second, and re-occurs every 10-20 minutes. Just wondering if anyone else has heard the same, and what it might be.
Thanks for any info...

Well, the ABS makes more of a grinding "buzz" than this noise, plus its from the middle/rear of the car, not the front. The car can be sitting for hours and Ill come out and itll do it. It drives my dog NUTS when he hears it, he tries to attack sompin under the car, its quite funny actually.
I did a search and couldnt find any other topics on this, I guess I used the wrong words to search. But Ill have to get up under there and take a good look at stuff. We do have return-less fuel systems and was thinking it could have been the fuel pump for some reason, but they make a higher pitched whine I think. The more I think about it, the bigger my curiosity grows, Ill just check it out when I have time...

I havnt taken it to the track with the new setup yet, but the best was 12.20 with the 302/Edelbrock heads/GT-40 intakes. I expect mid 11's on motor, I still have 100 shot of insurance if needed. Im buiding this car to be a weekend street car capable of beating a stock Viper every way possible(stop, go, twisties, top end)
My goal was to run 11's on motor, 180+mph, and over 1G in the turns. I believe I exceeded in all aspects, but Ill have to go to the salts to check that 180MPH top end, I dont want to get THAT stupid on the streets.
But I also have an 86 coupe that I will start on after I finish the GT which will be an all out drag car, I guestimate 9's on motor, 8's on the gas. I dont have any time expectations, Im just going to build a good combo and be happy with whatever it runs. The car is only 2400 LBS with only being striped and a fiberglass hood. I still want to go Lexan/fiberglass doors/trunk/fenders/k-member, etc...
I will need to add a cage and a few other braces, but I expect to keep it around 2300lbs. And it doesnt take much to get that down the 1/4!
SORRY SO LONG!!!

My 1999 Honda Accord and my Cls do it so I think it is something normal with Honda cars. I would love to know what it is though. I have tried but never figured out what it is.
A alittle bit off topic, who on the board has a classic Mustang?
I have a 69' 390 Mach I in factory original condition.

That sound is perfectly normal. My 98, 00, and 01 EX V6's all do that. It's the fuel system. After the car is shut off, there is still pressure in the fuel system.
That is what causes the various sounds that can be heard.
To stop it (and verify that it is the fuel system causing this), simply unscrew the gas cap with the car off and parked. It should hiss a little as all of the pressure is released. After you put the cap back on, it will stop the moaning/mooing/ringing sound that you hear.
But it's no problem.
