missing details in a police report (need advice)

My wife was rear ended by some guy who turns out has no insurance coverage.
So I am going through my insurance(I have to pay the deductible). The police came, and wrote a police report. When my insurance got the copy of this police report, they said that the cop did not provide "an accident description". The cop only described the damage to our cars. The cop did not even both to record
statments made by each party. The guy who rear ended my wife admited the fault to the cop, but this is not stated in police report! So now its "he said, she said" situation.
My insurance told me to contact police department, and try to get in touch with the cop so he can give more information (I have his name and badge number).

I will try to do so, they will probably send me to his voicemail, and I am sure that the cop won't return my call or bother to fax me his statment. Or at best, he will say something like "I don't recall the details".
Any suggestions on how to proceed in this case? My insurance will try to subrogate against the other party to recover the deductable, but it makes my case somewhat weak without the details.
damn pigs

I had an incident a couple years ago and the cop gave me his card with his mobile number on it. I had to leave him a couple messages but he always called me back. Also, you can go to the local police station of the place it happened and they can give you a copy of all the records for a small fee. Its probably like $5 bucks or something. I'd try calling him first though, you might get lucky. Was he a nice guy?

well, my insurance has a copy of the police report (they paid money to get it). The problem is that the report is missing the key information that should always be filled out when you call the police.
I will definatly try calling him(well, general police district number), but I don't count on it. He appeared to be a nice guy, but I am afraid he omitted this information on purpose. It turned out that the other guy and the police officer had "a common friend" when they chatted with each other. So he probably "forgot" on purpose...

the report only has drivers names, driver license #, car info, and damage to each vehicle, and location. It does not describe what happened or what statement was made by each driver.
My insurance got a copy of police report for $25, and its been few weeks, so its a full report...
now insurance wants me to contact the police officer to get more details from him.

I'd call up the Police Department and ask to file a formal complaint against the officer and request the accident report be ACCURATELY completed. Were there any witnesses to the accident, and were they included in the report? May try and contact them aswell and ask them kindly to call the PD to assist in the complaint. Also, might want to threaten with a lawsuit if nothing will be done to correct the problem.
