This might be the big one
Haven't driven the car in two weeks so Friday night coming around an offramp about 35 mph when the check engine light came on and lost power then felt like I lost a cylinder. I pulled over and heard a tapping from the left front corner of the cylinder head. I was about a mile from an Acura dealer ( Chevy Chase Acura ) and dropped in the after hours. Saturday morning the service manger called sounding like a doctor with bad news. Mike ( if anyone in the area is familiar with him ) said they have to remove the head Monday but it doesn't sound good. The engine never quit, no leaks, smoke or sounding never ran hot. Plenty of oil and coolant. I'm thinking shot rocker arm and bent valve. Only 79400 gentle miles, don't remember reading anyone else with this. Never had a drop of trouble with her. Update later on Monday.
UPDATE..........and please I hope a more knowledgable member reads this.
The dealer is saying iridum spark plugs melted my first cynlinder coilpack and damaged the head - $3300 for head replacement, $300+ dollars for platinum plug replacement. He's telling me our cars should never use iridum plugs because it did not come from the factory like that
Now I know that's bullshit.
And not covered by extended warranty.

Might be time to brush up on the Magnuson-Moss warranty act and maybe consult legal representation.

Lot's of people runing iridium plugs on their CL/TL with no problems.

OK......another update
The dealer now said that the 03 did come with NGK iridium plugs but not NGK IX iridium plugs that was found in the car, in for at least 4 years since I've had it. Now I checked various catalogs and the IX is a update for the older model same heat range, thread everything for an 03 CL. The extended warranty people did kick in and will replace the coilpack and rethread the damage cylinder where the number plug supposed to have heated and blew melting the coilpack. The head itself was not warped but now ONLY standard NGK iridium plugs will be installed ( still 300 dollars...not covered ) and should only be changed by a dealer after I get to 180,000 miles or another seven years whatever comes first.
I'm glad it's covered but I still feel scarred by the Dealer Dance. So hear's a little heads up to y'all, they will try to find something.
At least a got a 08 TL as a loaner...sweet ride
Thanks again all for info and support
