mid muffler delete, with headers

So after hitting the drag strip it's QUITE evident my mods could be doing more for me if the exhaust would allow IT.

SO headers are next on the list.... when I find a good set, and got the cash!... but I wanted to know if I should remove the mid muffler. Guys do it on their TL's and get power from it, I was just wondering if it's the same for us.

I heard Some do it and some don't.

I just want ppls opinions on if it's worth doing the headers and the mid muffler at the same time. Or should I do one then the other?

Thanks

i would just save for headers. As far as i know mid muffler is just for noise reduction. Our stock exhaust is pretty free flowing...unless you're FI.

Put headers on and have them check out your cat while they're at it. A bogged up cat could hurt performance.

I meant the resonator. but yea I guess just headers.

I don't want this thing to sound very loud. I kinda like having a quiet car until vtec kicks in.

I hate it when you can't have a conversation in the car at 2 grand cause the exhaust is ringing inside the cabin.

I deleted my mid muffler (look at my signature), and i only gained like 1hp. I did not notice a difference in power, but it sounds alot nicer.

did you notice the 6-8HP gain CT claims it makes off their exhaust though?

I was wondering if it's worth it or not? Mine are in good condition so I could sell them for 100 prolly. no rust or nothing.

it probably isnt that much louder but i've heard of people saying it sounds bad, and others say it sounds good.

If you want a cheap way to get more sound from the mufflers try my mod:

Yes, that is my youtube video. It was windy that day and the sound wasn't as nice. In real life my car sounds CLEAN, not ricey or anything like that.

BTW it cost me $40 for the mid muffler delete welded

It does not sound like rice its defintly got a way lower tone they a civic (maybe because its a V6)

The problem with that is that the Test Pipe will not make your car pass smog in California

It won't always throw a code. If it does some people either leave it or reset the code

Autozone sells adapters that you can weld on that spaces the sensor out of the flow of exhaust. I believe its called a defouler or someting like that.

Loss of tq down low but you still make more power up top. Instead of having that obstruction in the exhaust piping its open so the exhaust gases can escape quicker.

I have been waiting for DC headers FOREVER and they were ALWAYS out of stock on the new 3 bolt design, So i bit the bullet and went OBX (found them dirt cheap) and they worked out pretty good (sounds better and feel some gains) BUT now my cat is starting to fall apart (the inside are rattling inside the cat) so i was thinking of getting a test pipe or high flow cat but i had a few questions..

Will a test pipe be able to pass inspection (I live in NJ and my inspection expires in 4 months)

Is there a bung for the 02 sensor in the test pipe (If not it will deff fail inspection for the CEL being on)

anyone have a aftermarket hi flow cat except for XL8 what company and how much?
I didnt wanna spend more then $200 for a CAT..??

Anyone ever heard of BOSAL cat converters?
Also when I look at magnaflo cat's it says not compatible with type-s but bosal is compatible?
What companies make a GOOD (preferably hi flow ) cat for the type-s?

I ordered the XL8, should have it next week sometime.
If I were you I'd hit up junk yards or BM here & see if anyone has a stock cat. Just replace it & be done.

KISS,
Do the headers & go from there.

Test pipes are NOT DOT legal in any state.

No such thing as a cheap high flow cat for the Type S. You can get a universal cat from Summit, but I dont think any of them have the O2 bung on them.

I found a couple for under $200 bosal and magnaflow I would rather just spend $200 on a new one and be done with it .. when installing the headers it was such a PITA to get the downpipe dissconnected from the cat had to get the torch out and torch the bolts.

LOL that's why I am debating whether to attempt the header install myself or not.

Headers ARE my next mod... after I get my P2R thermo manifold and tb gaskets.

I bet it will be SOOOOOO much faster after they are installed.... all them intake mods and NOOOO exhaust mod..

My car must B begging for it

Dude I live in NJ and it was a nightmare to install the headers the cat was rusted to the J-pipe even after spraying it for 3 days b4 hand with PB blaster we had to torch it off.
We had to torch and drill the screws out of the cat what a PITA and on top of all that we put the wrong header on front and back LOL so I was sitting there cursing that it was the wrong size untill i realized the headers were bent different and the OBX stamp was on the back one not the front?!?!?! WTF!?!?!? everything was a mess we had to drill out the holes in the headers to fit the studs also...maybee we did that becuz we where trying to but front on back and back on front but who knows.. It took me and a good tech about 3 hours to do it with torch and everything.. I live in NJ and my car was 9 years old so it was through 9 salty winters though!
