Messed up my sunroof...

so on christmas day i lost my mind and locked myself out of my car. i left the keys in my jacket, opened the trunk, took off my jacket, and threw it in the trunk, and then yelled oh shit while shutting the trunk. the spare keys being right where they should be, in the glove box, didn't help much either. so i said to myself, i'm not gonna pay 50 bucks for some locksmith to come down and open it, i'll just use a wire hanger and it'll be alright. not only is our car a fortress when it comes to slipping anything through but i messed up my sunroof in the process. i lifted it too much and ripped the black rubber insulation that runs around it. does anyone know if i can fix that easily...how much at a dealership? would they want to replace the glass too? anyway, i'm pissed at myself but at least i got the door open. so i guess i can spend the 50+dollars fixing what i broke. what a christmas...

I would've just paid the locksmith. :captainobvious:

I'm not sure if you buy the rubber piece seperate or how much it would cost to repair it.

Go here: http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org/...prddisplay.jsp Then click Acura Parts Store and fill out the Drop down menu and when you get to the last drop down one where there is a list of parts look for sliding roof and you should find what your looking for. It's the seals correct? Look for the rubber seals it should be in there somewhere. Hope that help you.

And why the hell do you have a spare key in the glove box? Don't you read all the "my CL got stolen" threads? Every one has a "how did they get past the chip" post quickly followed by "I had a spare/valet key in the glove box" post.

You need to replace the whole glass assembly.

I had a crow tear & peck holes in my original. When I found out I could not replace the gasket, and it was about $800 at the dealer, I had insurance pay for it. I think they replace some of the slide components along with the glass.

The seal around the new glass is much more solid and rigid. The original was hollow rubber.

If you had a wire hanger you should have been able to open the trunk pass through to get inside the car and unlock the doors. I had to do this once when I was cleaning my car and accidently pushed the lock button. I used a golf club to get to the unlock button and unlock the car. Lucky for me I was a skinny person and able to reach that far.

OMG...that rubber seal around the sunroof glass is part of the GLASS!!!...you must replace the whole sunroof glass if you want to fix it. AND you must pray that it's not ripped bad enough to leak water. AND sorry to tell you but that glass is really expensive. not excatly sure on the price but I'm almost positve it's over $500. good luck man and try a junkyard or something.

What's your comprehensive deductible on your insurance? Maybe it will kick in if the fix runs into big $$$$$$$$$$$$$?

well, it's been raining here quite a bit and the sunroof isn't leaking so i'm okay. the tear just annoys me because i'm a perfectionist. but i'm not gonna pay 400 bucks for something that isn't broken. i'll let the next owner worry about that one. i think i might just glue the rubber together and see maybe it will look good enough. thanks for all the concern.
