Mercedes is recalling the SL55 AMG becaus of...NOT ENOUGH POWER!!!
It's red faces all round at Mercedes – engineers are going back to the drawing board after they realised the SL55 AMG wasn't as fast as the new hot E-Class. Not yet launched in Britain, the 476bhp supercharged convertible went on sale in Germany in February. Around 100 had been delivered when production was halted for six weeks to uprate engines to 500bhp.
This move ensured the SL55, the flagship of the AMG range, wasn't overshadowed by the next performance E-Class. The E will use the same engine, but as it's lighter and more aerodynamic than the SL, it had proved quicker in testing.

nothihng to be ashamed about...
sounds like their doing the right thing... upgrading the SL instead of restricting the E-Class or just letting it be.
Kudos Mercedes.
(assuming their gonna upgrade the 100 theyve sold tho)

that's kinda weird, i cant get over the idea that a sedan like the E (which is no push over but a sedan the same) could be faster than the ALMIGHTY SL55. crazy.
and i think acura would just wait till all the lower end competitors surpass them in hp and still market their cars (aheem CL aheem) as a "sports car", then upgrade the engine in their entry level company's bread and butter (aheem Accord V6 aheem) and do nothing nor say nothing to generate rumors of a power boost in the same car's luxury counterpart (aheem CL aheem). and in the process watch sales fall like a BIG DUMB ROCK.

that is awesome...I would imagine they will uprate the engines on teh ones they have sold first, and then re-release the SL55 to the open market...they will still take orders tho I'm sure!

Burn some dust here
Yall are right on this. I called my dad tonight and the salesman from RBM in Atlanta called him this afternoon to tell him. His 55 wont come in till next June, talk about a damn wait. He also said that the CL55 will be getting the same AMG engine as the new E55 next year. Ill post pics of both with me smiling between the two next July.
