lets face it, japanese cars are far more reliable compared with the german cars. People with trouble free benzes are probably the luckiest people on earth.

The problem with MB is their electronics, if they sorted those issues out.....their ratings would skyrocket back up.

MB is a company that is very good at introducing a new technology, but they have problems implementing them without the car having electronic bugs.

My oldman is on his 2nd E500, the first was bought back my MB due to them not being able to retrofit the prepaid Navigation (that car had Keyless Go issues). So, MB gave my oldman a 2nd car (at that point it was at the end of the model year). Was a new, freshly ordered car. The new one has been ok not great, the air suspension is having issues, the heated wheel, and the drive dynamic seats.

One would think that after being out for almost a year, MB would have taken care of any potential problems. But its not surprising in that German cars have always had electronic issues (especially the ones loaded up with electronic goodies).

The Japanese are very good at executing the features they put in their cars, Lexus in particular (things just work right the first time).

Well thats true. But this is my last Acura unless they make some 4wd or RWD.

Good service can make up for a shitty product. (i.e. my CLS) However not everyone see it that way.

sure, i agree, that to an extent service can make up for a shitty product.

Although i agree, acura does need to offer a RWD sports coupe. If i didn't have to worry about weather......i'd be in a RWD vehicle.

I agree that MB does have its share of problem but my V8 is one torque piece of machinery that is not available in most Japs.

plus as much as I spent on all my Japanese cars the clk 430 is better looking....I loved my cl-s but MB is in a totally different league

the SC430 is very nice for a $65K car but MB SL500 beat it out in the Edmunds comparison test.

http://edmunds.com/reviews/compariso...6/page007.html

also the SC430 has 300 HP and 325 lbs. torque which will accelerate it to 60 mph in 6.44 seconds. I havent raced one but Im eager to find out which is faster...but I will admit I do love the SC430

japanese are great for many reason and I will never knock them...but there is a reason the Germans cost more. It all depends if your willing to pay for it...but you get what you pay for.

comparing the two cars my clk and my old cl-s 6 spd. I think the cl-s is faster in short distance but will probably lose over 80 mph . The benz brakes better than my cl-s with brembos 12.4 and stainless steel lines. Handling dept. I will have to give it to the Benz even in stock form. Comparing the two in luxury dept...I will still have to give it to the benz simply because its RWD and no torque steer makes it easier to drive.

the cl-s beats the benz in better front seats, more interior room, faster 0-60, much better tranny cause manual, and can be bought for far less scratch.

IMO the 430 MB engine is one sweet engine..not as sweet as the 500 but it will edge out the acura 3.2 which I thought was the BEST.

make no mistake about it I bought the clk cause the cl-s was discontinued but had acura come out with something better.....no doubt about it I WOULD BE DRIVING AN ACURA

benz's are nice but they just don't have the exclusivity they had in the 80's, early nineties...save maybe the AMG models...they also didn't have nearly this many problems back in the 80's but that could have been because things were less complicated back then. the only new mercedes i'd consider buying now is the sl500. they ruined the clk, the ML series are for soccer moms, the 4 door sedans are boring looking (unless amg/lorinser)...the CL600 is just not that attractive considering the price...and the new slk looks like an SLR mini-me..and don't get me started on the c230...

now my buddy's dad's sl55 AMG...i'd give my left nut for that one...

after having the car for almost 2 years now, (and 2 other acuras before,) im more than happy with the car. had a few problems, but the dealer fixed everything in no time. this is however going to be my last acura unless they make a RWD or a more poweful coupe.

but ever car i get i try to improve, so my next car is going to be a Porsche, and not the POS boxster.

the Benz is really not for racing but Iam known to give some beatens every now and again.

last time the E46 M3 cut me off and try to take off on me once we started to put on speed he was not pulling...at the light he had to look over...meaning he knew it wasnt a walk in the park

clk 500 is very fast believe me it will probably take the Z

I agree the ML is whack and so is the SLK and C except the c32 that will walk on your Z other than that the SL is the only one that is nice but not for $90K

Actually, the CL500 won't take a Z. I raced my friend's fathers CL500 a few weeks ago. It was pretty close, but I had him by half a car to ~90.

In C&D (mag racing here), the CLK500 did 0-60 in 5.7 seconds. In C&D, the Z did 0-60 in 5.4 seconds. Close but it won't take a Z.

BTW.. I'm not trying to say the Z is a very fast car. It can be beaten by many other cars, but I actually raced a CLK500, and it isn't all that.

c32 will likely take a Z but a clk500? no way man. like cusdaddy said, equal drivers, the z would win. Better ask google . Also, I think the SL500 is worth every penny of that 90k. It's a mechanical masterpiece. Best retractable hard top around.

when did this become Z vs. mercedes anyway...or even about speed...I was just giving my honest opinion about how I feel about Mercedes' new car lineup...largely unimpressed. c32 is fast but I wouldn't buy one. Looks dorky .

This statement is purely based on cosmetics:

If Lexus busted an Acura and got less conservative in its styling (and didn't make $32,000 Civic clones *cough*IS300), I'd be all over their cars.

For 30k more, I would hope so. You could buy an SC and an IS for the price of an SL500.

I visited bimmer.org the other day looking under E46 and besides the usual ball joint/control arm replacements, window regulators etc..they're having tranny problems now. Sounds like us a few years back complaining if it's new or rebuilt. So much for grass being greener on the other side.

Call me weird, but other than the depreciation, I kinda like the fact that the CL was discontinued. Look at the Supra, it's a 10 year old car but still looks hot because there is not a newer one to make it look old(yet?). Same is true with the Legend Coupe. I liked the 300zx up until the 350z came out. The 300zxtt is faster than the 350 but looks really old next to it.

So you sold a discontinued car and bought a car that is the "OLD" model? This reasoning seems flawed to me. Admit it, you bought a Benz for the status (and there's nothing wrong with that unless you deny it).

Benz has its share of problems. My friend had a 01 C320 and it had tons of electrical problems after being in the shop for over a month Benz lemon lawed the car. They gave him another brand new C320 and he had electrical problems with that one also.

We have 4 MBs in our family (C32-mine, E500-dad, 420SEL-mom, & E320-uncle). On the newer ones, any electronics issues present were solved by updating software. No other problems except I had a slight rattle on roof light fixture, which I noticed when I took delivery, was fixed under warranty. The E320 has over 90,000 city miles on it with no problems following MB's regular maintenance schedule. The 1987 420SEL has 130,000 miles and has had 2 recalls, 1 electrical problem (alarm), radiator was replaced after 100k miles, and stock internals re-built/replaced with broken timing belt (due to owner ignorance changing the oil every 10-15k miles! ).

Each to his own on the styling...the Z will be looking at the "dorky" C32 tail lights all day. I beat a modded track Z with i/h/e/plenum by 5 cars to 100.
