Melting Airbag

Anybody ever experience this? Its on the driver side airbag. THe material feels sticky to the touch when the car has been baking under the Florida sun... you can put a fingerprint in some areas. Manufacturer defect? Can it be replaced by Acura under some sort of safety guidelines?

Hah.. I have this exact same problem (See location). I tried "cleaning" it to get the stickiness off, but the leather appears to actually just wipe off.. I have little black spots all over the airbag now. Wonder if you can replace just the cover?

Real leather does not melt. It must be some cheap man made vinyl that is painted black or whatever color. Window tint is your friend.

I know exactly what you mean. Happened to mine. It was only the airbag. Call Acura with your vin, there happens to be a recall on some airbags for a safety issue. Not related to the melting, but if the car falls into the recall range they will replace the airbag.
If not, you can replace the airbag. It's not hard. You can find them on EBay.

Tint doesn't matter.(had 15%) The FL heat sun & humidity WILL get you eventually.

Just went outside and snapped a camera phone pic for those who have no idea what we're talking about.. It's hard to see but the emblem is actually distorted also... You can see where I tried cleaning it and the tan vinyl/whatever actually started rubbing off

yikes.

See if you can get a replacement, they're real easy to change out.

My car is in FL and I haven't seen that happen.

I thought the seating surfaces like the perferated leather on the Type-S is genuine leather along with the steering wheel and shift knob.

I’m glad and kinda not glad to see that I am not the only one with this issue. Its sticky and nasty looking... makes the steering wheel look dates. Ebay has the airbag for a $200 hit I think I will live with the issue if Acura won’t decide to help me out. It could be a serious safety issue when your honking abilities get diminished when trying to honk at all the old people in South Florida lol

On a side note: I dropped my car off at the local mechanic and let me tell you I am having some anxiety about it. Never had to drop off my car at a mechanic but the last time I did was with MIDAS (yeah thats not a joke) and they put the wrong oil in my car and seized the engine I dropped off the car to get the front right axle assembly, tranny/engine mounts, and timing belt serviced looked at. The guys says to me, “we might have to pull the valve cover off to check the timing belt”. I don’t know if this is true but it goes to sow that he isn’t very educated about Japanese cars perhaps. Made me real nervous but I wanted to get the items looked at before I cause further damage. Wish I could do all the work myself which would give some peace of mind and extra money to spend.

well i've held and seen real leather and that seat doesn't look even close to real..

only HIGH end cars do they use legit leather like bentley, rolls royce... etc. they make a big deal about it to if u watch those tv shows on the manufacturing process.

i guess i was gulable too to think it's real leather my ass was sitting on but lets face it... that costs too much for those cheap bastards. w/e tho. gotta accept the truth
