Megan Racing Header PROBLEM

Megan Racing Header PROBLEM
i put on my new set of headers saturday....the gains are great and the fitment is perfect...no problems what so ever with the install except getting off the old rusty OEM stuff. BUT theres a catch. after the install i went for the test drive and the car is making a hissing noise coming from underneath the car. got it up on a lift and put her in drive and put the car under a load while holding my foot on the break. my friend from underneat says that the car is making the noise from by the front section of the flex pipe and theres nothin he can do for it (he owns the muffler shop) except cut out that section and replace it with solid piping. i called megan and they said that i need to send them back to the seller and they will send me a new set. hopefully its something that is a easy fix with new set or the flex pipe itself was just defective. anyone have any other ideas as to what the heck the noice might be? all in all the install went great and everything lined up well and i was really surprised to come across this. please if anyone has had similar experiences with possibly fixes let me know cause i would rather not send the set back cause i dont feel like takin all the shit back off again
thanks
thanks

see its not comin from the area by the flanges its comin from the area by the flex i think...and i know i tightened those really tight and used all the gaskets with the headers. hopefully the video will help

okay i have a clip of the sound if someone would like to host it.....also my friend told me an idea that might work....im pretty sure its coming from the flex in the pipe....so he told me to just wrap the hell outa it with exhaust wrap or turbo manifold wrap...it might not get rid of the sound all together but it might mask it enough to make it not so noticable what do you guys think?

If it's a leak in the flex pipe, then it shouldn't cost too much to replace, especially because your friend owns a muffler shop. I just find it interesting that it's a hissing noise, instead of a clicking noise. An exhaust leak sounds like a clicking/ticking noise. I'm not familiar with the Megan headers, but a swoosh/hiss noise is normal, because the pipes are thinner and transmit noises more easily, compared to the stock exhaust manifold.
If it's a leak, then you could wrap it in exhaust wrap, but that would decrease its flexbility. I backed into a curb once and messed up my exhaust system, and I am 100% sure that if it weren't for the flex pipe, I would've bent the headers, too.
I would just get it replaced. It's not worth sending back and all that fuss.

screw you buddy...i asked for help..not criticism. and that doesnt fix it. the flex is there for a reason because it has to flex without it, the pipe might crack
video is hosted let me know if anyone has any ideas:

Sounds perfectly fine to me.
By the way, stop braking and gassing at the same time. You're gonna burn up your torque converter.
Honestly, mine has that noise, too. It's fine. It's because the pipes are thinner now, not to mention aluminum compared to cast iron, hence will transmit more noises than the stock pipes.
If it really bothers ya, then try switching out the flex pipe. If you're sure the noise is coming from there, that is.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but it really does sound normal to me.

ya like when i drive by a building or next to a wall its pretty loud..if you guys think its normal then ill just go with it. i have a year warranty so if it drives me crazy enough then i can always replace it later....more input and opinions is still welcome tho thanks for yalls time and input
edit: ya i know its not real good for the torque converter but thats the only way i could think to get the sound on vid good.

It sounds like you have a cold air intake that is just pulling harder than before. That is the same thing that happend to me after i installed my headers. Sort of a swish swish sound eh? What would be a better test is to just let the car idle and listen for leaks. You will definaltly know if you have a leak. The should is quite obvious. Otherwise if you don't hear anything on a normal idle IMO you should be fine.

hey
i have the megan racing headers and i have that frikin loud hissing noise too! it sounds wierd but its pretty tight. almost sounds like a turbo. dont replace the flex pipe or you will probably have issues. wrap the flex pipe with header wrap. thats what i did and it helped a lil with the noise!

try to reset the ECU by unplugging the battery and replugging it in 2-3 hours later,m take her for a 15 min spin then shut her down for the rest of the day. Next day she should start to show normal operating characteristics, its worth a try and solved alot of problems I had with headers, and intake from before.

i ended up just taking them off. the hissing pissed me off too much. i learned the ol get whatcha pay for deal.
power was nice, but not worth tolerating the noise.
i guess thats what i get for being one of the guinea pigs for these cheaper headers

megans have hissing issues. There's not much you can do about except minimize the noise by cutting the front flex out replacing with just pipe, wrapping the headers, and sealing it up with gasket sealant or thicker gaskets.
I'm thinking it has something to do with the type of metal that was used for the headers it may be thinner than it should be or the welds are not strong. if you want absolute quiet go with comptech for headers and intake. I can't see myself paying 1000+ for comptech so I just deal with the sound of backyard beater type car.

the problem has been established. the welds on the inside are jagged and sloppy. resulting in resonance from the inside. its not JUST the flex...its the welds throughout the header.
