me vs strangely fast civic

ok, so Iw as on my way to school and I saw a modded civic next to me at a light, I looked inside his car through his cracked window and saw an extra gauge on his dash. not sure if it was a turbo gauge or not, but what else would it be? Anyways it was a 2 door del sol and we were turning at a light and I gunned it a little after we turned to corner to give him the race idea. tehn we both catch a light and he got a pretty big jump on me, but onc eI got to around 3000 rpm in first I stayed even with him. I was gateshifting and I shifted WAAAAAYYY too early (like 5500 rpms) and lost a pretty good lead tehre. when he was in 3rd I was at the top end of 2nd and reeling him in, but there was traffic ahead and we had to slow down.

so anyways, is that normal for a civic del sol to do that NA, or oculd it hav ebeen turbo'd? I swear I heard a small *pshhhh* in his 2-3 shift, but I don't remember one in his 1-2 shift, but i was kinda excited because no one ever wants to race around here. I ahve a 3.0 btw and all I have is a CAI.

1994 Honda Civic del Sol VTEC 7.4 15.8

if it was this one it could prolly take you stock

you said it was modded, maybe cosmetic

the earlier versions w/o VTEC were slower i think i saw mind-high 16's for those, but a few good mods would put that well within the relm of possibility

remember our cars just arent that fast

yeah, well it at least had an exhaust. This car is definitely faster than my 0-60 in 18 second car I had before this, lol.

A well modded Del Sol VTEC (DOCH motor) can run mid 14's... nice kill though!

Del Sol VTEC's are to be respected. If they didn't have so much chassis flex, I would have gotten one as a second car.

If you were gate shifting and shifted early, the tranny still should have held in gear at least another 1000RPM til the program told it to shift.

The Del Sol being lighter was probably more in it's prime at those speeds.
