MB CLK320 vs Accord EX V6 6MT (Motor Trend, WTF?)
Sorry if this is a repost...

What a strange matchup, what are these guys smoking?
Anyways, Motor Trend squeezed these numbers out of the Accord V6 6MT using regular gas -
0-60: 6.22
1/4: 14.54 @ 98.04

hmmm, seems to me the CL-S is the perfect "comprimise" between the two. More class, luxury and exclusivity than the Accord, and less $$ than the Benz. Plus it's got more power than both. I still think the CL-S has nice little niche going (although Honda Exec's may disagree)

whoever did that needs to be fired.
the accord/CL-s is NOT even close to the same game as the CLK...come on...
this is some bullsssshit
if i owned a CLK, i would be writing a very strong letter to MT

ok, someone over at MT has some serious Shyt goin on accepting money from someone to write these lame a$$ articles comparing apples to oranges.
they're comparing a high end luxury car with a standard coupe. runnerX is right, they may as well compare 1/4" mile times and engine differences between a porsche 911 turbo with a civic and claim the porsche to be better. NO SHYT SHERLOCK!
if they did compare the honda accord coupe with a cls, or even the solara, or maybe the new mazda 6, i'd say that would be a good article, but what the hell are they trying to pull,
either mercedes needed an ego boost and payed to have this article written, or honda tried to show just how economical and reliable honda's are. either way, honda wins (in my book)

next look at their comments after the accord man-handled the clk around the cones, and clearly takes turns faster than the benz, they'd pick the benz because of "rear wheel drive dynamics" at least the sats don't lie!

Dude.. Will you stop flaunting your Accord? I am glad you enjoy your car, but stop this constant posting about how great your car is. My freaking parents have an 03 Accord. It's a decent car but it's not a CL. No way, no how.
And the V6 Accord is NOT as fast as the CLS. I've driven it, so I should know.
RSX is based off the Civic. Does that make the Civic the same
yeah, but since the cls is a rebadge of the 6th gen accord coupe, its now out-dated! so the beter choice is the "all-new" 7th gen accord coupe

Why can't you compare an Accord with a CLK? Seems to me the Accord beat the Mercedes in just about every category yet you continue to say that the two should not be compared?
Maybe I'd be mad too if a 25K Accord bested my Mercedes in nearly every category of a comparison test!
Do they both not have 4 wheels? Do they both not have an engine, doors and seats? Do they both not drive on roads?
Quite frankly, I think the argument that "you can't compare two cars" is the stupidist thing I've ever heard! I could compare a Hummer to a Neon if I felt like it! Sheesh.

Hey tourqeoooooo:
I don't have the ariticle, but CHECK YOURSELF BEFORE YOUR WREAK YOURSELF.
MB CLK 320 WAS compared to the 2001 CLS ! They are in the same classification ! However, the CLK430 was not, that is the V8 version, just so you know.....And for the record, the 2001 CLS weighs 100 pounds MORE than the CLK320 V-6 ! Who would think that an Acura (Honda in your terms) weighs more than an Mercedes Benz ??????????????????????? MB were/are known for "heavy Euro German car" bull shit crap etc.......
Either MB or Honda has influenced MotorTrend to TRY TO COMPARE A hONDA ACCORD TO A MB !
Give me a break ! LOL !

accord will always be an accord.
clk, is on a totally different level.
do you actually think that CLK customers would even CONSIDER a fucking honda accord???
you need to own a mercedes to understand the difference.
again, u guys are starting to get so obsessed over your rides..that u think u have the "best" car in the world, when in fact, you only own the "best" car for YOU.

Cars are getting better and better. Even lower teir car are getting lux items. For example, mazda protoge had EBD. My 30k doesn't have EBD. New honda accord interior is leaps and bounds better than the CLS. I would say that the gauge cluster is on par with S500. Geeze even the s500 roof.....120k car has CLOTH!!! :thumbsdn:
CLK 320 is garbage. Way overpriced for what it offers in terms performance and lux items.

I truly can't stand the new accords. I think they are cheaply made, and its only a matter of time before they are everywhere.
The test is truly ridiculous. What's the point?!

Say what you want about the Accord Coupe and our CL-S (and I have had both) but the CLK is a level they can't touch. The car is classic and beyond Honda/Accura in many ways.
I'd take a CLK500... hell I'd take a 430 :P
Don't get me wrong though, I'm satisfied with my CLS (for now)

I like this comparison very very much. Usually car magazines don't do this kind of comparsion. Why spend almost twice the money for some extra features that most of the people don't use most of the time? In fact, I have never found Benz vehicles worth that kind of money. Lexus and BMW might, but not Benz.

The new Accord is lighter has almost as much HP & the
6spd should be as quick or quicker while the 5spd auto has
shorter 4th & 5th gears compared to the CL/TL trannys,
that should also help in quicker acceleration.
I think the point of the comparison is here's a very good car with a great performance & a lot of features for a reasonable $26k & here's a $50k coupe, IS it twice the car ???

heres some:
Frameless side windows
Adaptive Accelerator
Adaptive Steering
Dual-zone climate control
Automatic Seatbelt Presenters
Emergency-sensing Brake Assist
Emergency Tensioning Devices
Airbag Curtains all over the place
Belt force limiters
10-way air bag protection
Keyless Go
Distronic Adaptive Cruise Control
Front and rear door mounted airbags
Bi-xenon headlamps
Looks are subjective, though I'm POSITIVE, that A LOT more people think the CLK looks better.
There is NO comparison between interiors. I noticed in the MT article, they used the WORST interior pic for the CLK and the BEST interior pic for the ACCORD.
Interior refinement, if you think the Accord is on Par, you REALLY have not sat in a MB lately.
Do you think that the Accord will drive NEARLY as smooth as the MB?? Do you think that the MB's engine will be louder than the accords? Do you think that the MB will have a shitty transmission?? Do you think the MB will shift harder than a ACCORD?????
I think most of you have not driven the newers MB's...
Which car has the potential to look better? What does honda offer to go against the AMG package, Multi-Contoured seats??
And well, yes, there is the BRAND NAME as well....I'm sorry, but i like MB more than Honda.
When putting all things into perspective, these two cars are NOT in the same class,
"Yeah, IMO the Accord is just as good and costs so much less. With the CLK, you're paying for the name...and to some people, that doesn't mean much."
i dont think so AT ALL.
No matter what, u get what you pay for.
Hey its ok, you remind me of me 2 years ago, when i got my cl-s, i thought i was getting a great car and a GREAT value, and at the end, i realized why.
oh, and i wonder who gives u more options with respect to colors, interior, exterior...etc
They also know how to treat you right at the MB dealership, you wont need to raise your voice/threaten. They will take care of you, no matter what.
Also, I think Mercedes pays for your services for 50 thousand miles....im not sure on this one, i know BMW and Audi do it...but that right there is about 2 grand for service for the accord.

oh and the accord will feel like just another honda after 20 000 miles....that wont happen with the MB, it will keep its characteristics and continue to offer distinction.
When your driving a Accord, you are also driving a TL-p, TL-S, CL-p, CL-S, Accord sedan, and maybe even a TSX....its all about the feel.

Also, I think Mercedes pays for your services for 50 thousand miles....im not sure on this one, i know BMW and Audi do it...but that right there is about 2 grand for service for the accord.
oh, and can you add cheap as$, gay continetal 16" tires to the list of standard features on the benzo?

all this jargon still doesn't explain why the accord, outhandled, and out accelerated it! for 50grand, would it kill them to drop in a v6 with ballz? why do they have to low ball me on hp, to make profit? misreble old men

Net power 232 hp @ 5,750 rpm
Net torque 254 lb-ft @ 3,000 - 4,500 rpm
So, it should move alot better than the engine thats in the current clk320:
Net power 215 hp @ 5,700 rpm
Net torque 229 lb-ft @ 3,000 - 4,600 rpm
Torque, the accord is nice and a great car for $26k, but what amir is trying to say is that theres no way it can compare to the subjective feelings the 50k+ the benz costs. The benz is def. alot nicer inside (i.e. quality of materials, fit and finish etc.), the benz coupe is what most accord buyers would like 2 aspire to/eventually own...

You can't fairly compare an Accord to a MB.....let's be real.
Doesn't matter what's faster or handles better.
Would I spend $48k on a CLK320, no of course not. I would spend the extra cash and get a 500, well worth the upgrade. You get a beastly 302hp V8 and the AMG bodykit/wheels, those being the biggest reasons to get it.
All I know is my oldman's E500 Sport is a simply awesome car, getting out of that (the few times I have driven it) and back into my CL is depressing.
