Mazda Miata Coupe unveiled

Mazda unveiled this new Miata with the denotion RS Coupe in Japan. It is a concept for now but everyone is sure they will build this in limited quantities.

The interior is identical to that of the current Miata.

The engine and tranny are also the same and top speed is expected higher due to better aerodynamics.

Look at the similarity of the exterior with the Aston Martin Vantage

By the way, I just saw the first Hyundai Coupe on the road and it looks a lot like the F456. What is up with these Asian firms copying European designs?

Of course, one will say, this is not the first time they've done it but it seems to me like an increasing trend.

Good for them though. Bringing expensive styling in down-to-earth pricing. All good for us, the consumers.

And here is the V12 Vanquish from the rear. There is similarity for sure from the rear.

Very sweet. I love the look but the Miata ride is a little too noisy and bumpy for everyday driving. The coupe might quiet it a little. I still think I'd go for the S2000.

I now see why Mazda is interested in a Coupe version of the MX5. There is a coupe Boxster coming out later this year. Although the cars are nowhere near the same category price-wise, they provide the same type of driving pleasure. So one could call this new car, poor-man's Porsche Boxster Coupe.

I read about that in the latest issue of SCC. They had an article on one of the Tokyo Auto Shows and they showed that pic.... I think it looks like the Aston b/c it was a joint project that Aston helped design the car... I could be wrong... I'll have to re-read the caption, but I'm almost positive that's what it said....

yea the car looks pretty badass, but if they are using the same engine (i think the original poster said this), then I would not even consider it. Im sure that the mazda is a really fun car to drive, but the limited edition miata's are in the really high 20's (price--if you dont believe me, go to their web site, and build one and check the price--I couldnt believe it either )

I like it sans the painted piping job on the tail lights. Reminds me of some 6 dollar pep boys add on. I'm actually really surprised no one's called this thing a bitch car yet in this thread...having driven one I know it's a drivers car but I mentioned the bmw z3 a while back as being a cool ride and i got slammed by numerous people calling it a bitch ride. Sometimes I don't understand why some cars get the bitch stamp and others don't. The VW w8 passat for instance...asked about this thing in car talk the other day cus it had like 270 hp, and people made it seem like I had asked about the vw cabriolet or something???

Yeah, I've got an issue of Road and Track from 1994 (something like that) that shows an actual hardtop Miata. Of course it was the previous generation Miata, but it looks the same from the beltline up.

Of course I still haven't seen one on the road yet.......
