if you stick a magnet outside the pan....so the tiny tiny metal shavings will get stuck on the inside....how are you gonna clean those ??? !!!!

with a mag drain plug, the shavings get stuck on the plug so while doing ur tranny flush you can clean the magnet and throw it back in there !!!

Same way you clean the other pan magnet, drop the pan. I can guarantee that there is far more metal shavings stuck to the magnet currently inside your transmission pan then some little magnet drain plug that hasn't been in there since day 1. If you're that worried about the metal shavings inside your transmission, you should be dropping your pan to clean them out, not using some tiny magnet.

i have a drain bolt whose magnet is 3-4 times stronger than the stock magnet and i change my tranny oil (a simple flush and refill) every 10K miles....so i clean the magnet every 10 K miles !!!

Acura suggest u do a 3x3 method every 60 K miles....and thousands of trannies have failed....which mean you change 12quarts....every 60 K miles....

i do a 1x3 every 10K miles....which means i use up 12Quarts every 40K miles....

how does this equate to buying a new car.. !!! ???

Fail , the first change is suppose to be at 60k, and every 30k there after (if it was up to me, first change would still have been at 30k, better to keep it clean from the get go)

^^^ thanks for the clarification for that dude.....so by 90K according to acura u will use 24Quarts (2X[3x3]) LOL !!!

and i will use up 24Quarts by 80K....and by 90K i will use 27quarts

so getting a new ride is true unless the ride cost 3x$10....which is $30....ohhh yeah and the taxes LOL !!!

^^^ i would say do it whatever way you like, as long as you can keep the fluid clean

also don't forget the filter every 30k also (or at a bare minimum every 60k)

^^^ yup look into it....the reason i feel this might be one of the main tranny issue is because 04-06 TL's have 1 3rd pressure switch and 1 4th pressure switch.....

where are 07+TL's and TL-S's have 2 3rd pressure switch and 1 4th pressure switch.....

plus is very inexpensive to save the least....like $30 a switch !!! LOL !!!

I just cleaned mine out a few weeks ago. I took them out, soaked them in some seafoam and thoroughly dried them. Now I did this in conjunction with changing out 3 quarts of transmission fluid. I did notice my shifts to be more crisp but the problem is, I can't attribute the change to cleaning the 3rd and 4th switches or from the fluid change.

It doesn't hurt to try and clean them and see if you notice a difference.

well they are pressure switches....

the 3rd sensor has a pressure of 27psi (i think)....so when the pressure accumulated to 27 psi, it shifts up to 4th.....and when the pressure drops below 27 psi....it downshifts....

by cleaning it thoroughly you might have cleaned it up but if the sensor has become kinda sluggish or some like that, then you prolly need to change it.....

what i suggest is since u cleaned it and did a drain and refill....try changing the pressure switches and see the difference !!! i think you should be able to see a really big difference.....

Ha, or maybe your tranny was producing twice as many shavings because it's on it's last leg.. Jk, I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

I know that, I used to work at Jiffy Lube and they used to con people into having their diffs flushed.

Only reason I ask is because not one of the Hondas Ive owned have had a magnetic drain plug in it from the factory.

basically all automatics, ethier in the pan or the plug, to help catch all the worn off clutch pack material, instead of it all going through the filter and such, and plugging that up (then in some, they will make a little recess fot it somewhere, but there is one in there somewhere, to help catch the some of the shit)

Interesting.

And yes, Jiffy Lube is a scam. Thats why I lasted only 3 months there. I couldnt stand watching old ladies go in for a $30 oil change and seeing them robbed of $150 because they "needed" their tranny flushed or their wiper blades replaced.

It was fun watching cars drive into the pit though
