thats a spoiler? shit thats small...i didnt even know m5's had spoilers. Its not bad (hope you didnt pay tons of $$$ for it though). IMO the new SEMA spoiler for the cl looks cooler, cause its bigger. Still, not bad
ST2000: Any pics of your spoiler?
Why? I personally like the TL's trunk better (it's boxier). I wanted something to reinforce the horizontal line and curve of the trunk, w/o having some obnoxious wing hanging off (no offense to those that like that). I personally think the factory spoilers look horrible but again, just my opinion. Definitely didn't want anything that looked like it fell off a 747 sitting on the back.
Also, because it's a lease, anything I do has to be "non-permanent"... I have to be able to restore it to stock. Finally, I like little custom projects.
The ///Ms have optional spoilers purely for aethetics. It's my understanding, any non ///M series BMW with the "duck tail" lip spoiler on it is aftermarket mod (ie. not available from the factory). I originally bought a M3 spoiler but it was really short (~ 2"). After bending it to match the curve, it was way too small. The M5 spoiler's a perfect fit after the bend.
I bought the spoiler for $125 (nothing on a BMW is inexpensive). Cost $60 to have it painted at a reputable shop. Spent about $3 in double-sided tape. So I have < $200 and some time in it.
I did it completely by myself. Would have been a lot easier with another person to hold. The hardest part was getting everything lined up and even. Especially because of the curves in the trunk, the spoiler has to be bent gently in a couple of directions (to match the crowned "arch" and the trunk's shape).
Eventually ended up using masking tape to hold down the corners and then pulled the middle into place. I then measured to make sure everything was even and "outlined" the edge of the arc with more masking tape. Then slowly took the backing off the double sided tape and curved the spoiler around the outline. Took about 1 hour from start to finish (including a couple smokes to figure out how the hell to do it).
I admit, it doesn't look quite right directly from the side due to the small profile. However, if you're looking at an angle , it looks a lot better. Picture "PICT0012" is what you would see when walking by. I love the hard line it adds from the rear (which the only view anyone should see it from anyway).

I ordered the spoiler painted and shipped $210, i custom shaped it myself with a little help of halogen lamp, the urethane shapes well when heated.

And, they are somewhat fuctional past the goverened top speed of 155. I have driven an unrestricted M5 to an indicated 187, it could have used a larger spoiler to eliminate a bit of rear lift. Not bad though.

You can get them from a BMW dealer that has a service/parts dept. If the M5 spoiler is too long, you can try the M3's.

) That must have been a blast ST2000, that is a beautiful ride bro. You got the color I wanted (still wish I'd waited). You're a little more inventive than I was w/ the halogen light. I used the brute force method. Your grill job is tight.
If anyone else does this, follow ST2000's lead, but bend it before you get it painted.
