M3 or M5 Lip Spoiler?
Ok, so I searched for about 30 minutes but couldn't come up with a real answer to my question.
? ?
I see these on Ebay which painted and shipped for under 100 bucks is a steal. I believe this is the "M3" Spoiler":
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...3990&rd=1&rd=1
I initially wanted the factory spoiler but, these lips have grown on me. I saw on c-c-c.net the difference between the two. The M5 looks to be a bit larger and has a more gradual slope than the stubby M3 lip. In your opinon, which of the two is better?
Are either worth it or should I just stick to the factory spoiler idea? I'm wondering if down the road I ever want to take the lip spoiler off if I will be able to by heating up the adhesive, or will it damage the paint.
Oh and BTW this will be going on an 03 SMR

Look really nice, like the drop with the factory wheels too! So heat and curve... is this process terribly complicated or straight forward. I have a heat gun, but are we talking just heating it up to flex a little bit?

Don't Mess With Texas
you have to flex it quite a bit, but no matter what you do unless its molded its prob gonna pop up on the sides. i have had to reattach mine 2x already. its OEM M5 btw. the M3 will be short on both ends. GL

The M5 is the only one that is a direct fit. The M3 won't fit right. That, and the factory spoiler fits correct. That's what I have. I originally wanted the M5 spoiler, but I ended up with the factory one. I'm still jealous of your car.

Thanks
It's pretty straight forward if you have a heat gun. We laid it on a table and applied pressure to the ends while warming up the center section.
I used the OEM tape that C-C-C. net sells and have had no problems of lifting at all. I just used some 3-M wax remover to prep the surface and pressed it down. The regular double stick stuff doesn't work as well.

Actually, not to hijack your thread, but what do you guys think about a carbon fiber M5 lip spoiler on a SSM CL-S? Just curious. I have a carbon fiber "A" emblem, think it might look good?

P.S. i sent the guy a message... He says this is an exact fit from end to end with no bending or heating required... He said the lip is about 1 1/2 inches wide, so it should look pretty cool.

OK I went ahead and picked this one up to replace the one I had. Some ass tried to steal mine and ended up cracking it. First off the paint is a good match. Second this appears to be made from rubber, it's real limp and flexible and lastly, it's not a perfect fit, after you flex it to match the curve, you end up a little short on each end.

Looks great! could we get a pic from a few diff angles, i'm looking into one of these for my car(like to the side, looking over the trunk lid to the front of the lip, a rear quarter shot etc. i'd really like to get a good idea of what it looks like, most i see more show it off from a distance).
You got it from the xenon guy correct. How much is the gap between your trunk and the strip, can you see the tape? Over all, honest feeling on the quality of the lip and how it fits, if it's rubbery and bendable i'd like that more than a stiff straight one that always wants to lift of the trunk lid.

Here are the pics you asked about:
This lip is from the xenon guy on eBay. It comes pre-painted (pretty good quality paint, although it takes a month or so to bake in the sun and match the car) with two self-adhesive strips. It's very flexible which is great since the CL's trunk is not exactly the straightest trunk out there. Takes two people about 2 minutes to install (yes, you *need* two people to install, or else it will come out looking like shit) and only leaves about a 1/2 centimeter gap between the end of the trunk on each side (see pics).

Leaving residue?
I hear that debadging will leave a residue on the car that is hard to get rid of. Is this true for you all that have debadged? How old was your car when you did it? Do you have to re-buff/wax the paint so that the letter outline doesn't show?
