hey guys, i'm new on the forums but my girl picked up a 01 CLS so i'll be here a bit more. The car is pretty nice and its def. pretty quick for the type of car it is. One of the problems we're having is after long trips, there is this loud rubbing/lowpitched/bassy noise coming from the outside at around 25mph. Its only around this speed. Any idea what it could be? I thought it might be the tires but i'm not entirely sure. Any help would be awesome.

Does it only happen when the sunroof is open?

Is it a one-time noise at 25 mph or continuaslly at 25 mph??

Maybe the ABS checking itself??

my friend's 03 CL does that low drumming sound when his sunroof is open, but mine doesn't.... hahha wierd

it seems like it depends on the day and possibly the different wind speed. Sometimes its at 25, sometimes at 30. The main problem is it only happens on some days. Usually after a long trip i believe. I was going to bring it in to a dealer but what am i going to say...oh...sometimes it makes noise a 25-30mph with the moonroof open? The noise isnt consistant enuf for them to fix it.
In any case, i'm on supraforums and i was beginning to feel like this forum was crap since no one posted...now its good to feel that the ppl here care about small other issues from unknown members

and to Smoke01...the noise is a constant noise at a certain mph.

Probably just the "waffling" sounds from the moonroof being open. If you get a moonroof visor it might make the noise go away, but she will have a 2" moonroof opening.

The wind deflector on the open sunroof is resonating with the wind going across the top of the car. When you hear the noise, hold down the wind deflector on the sunroof and the noise will stop.

If it's the sunroof causing this, try cracking the windows. In my A4 I get this effect on humid days. If I crack my rear windows is goes right away.
