Low MPG? any solutions..

Evry now and then I see a post about how great the CLS' MPG would be on HW.

I am so annoyed that the best MPG I achieved is 26 MPG.

If something is wrong what is it and how can I correct it?

Thanks for the info.

You're complaining about 26? I have yet to come even close to breaking the 20s.

My short trips MPG is 20-22
My long trips MPG is 25-26

Most of the time is 20-22.

So How some can break 30 MPG!

Shut ya AC off.... Most people have it on all the time to defrost their windows in the winter and cool the car all summer.

Could be driving habits... reset the computer and drive normal, well drive the speed limits and see what happens.

The trips that are listing MPG of 30/31 are
total interstate. i.e. fill up - drive 450 to 500 miles (with maybe one pit stop), fill up again.

Usually the most I can fill when the Empty light is on ,is 14.5-15 Galons, I would have some 375-385 miles on counter A.

So this is how I compute my MPG. Fill up, Rest Counter A drive until E is on, Fill Up again, Galons pumped divided by counter A would be my current MPG. Then, I reset Counter A.

One thing I noticed too, after driving for a while and pulled over for a while the Gas needle is not same as it is used to be while driving, it does not go back to the same level while driving. It seems that the gas needle will recalibrated when you start your CLS.

Comment:

The 30 MPG I got was doing an average of 70-80 MPH. The roads were NOT congested, I only hit the throttle hard twice, and there were no big hills to climb.

The other tricky part is to make sure you measure you gas mileage at the same EXACT pump you filled up at, and let it fill-up with its default click-off, then return to same EXACT pump and let it fill-up again with the exact same click-off.

I've noticed that SELF topping off is not really a great thing, so the next best thing is to find one pump to set the gas level.

You also are running the Nittos. They are rather sticky (you have commented on how they pick up sand and pebbles [unlike the stock piggies]). If you are loosing about 10% of your gas mileage, then your 30 MPG would become 30 - 3 = 27 MPG. Isn't that pretty close to what your getting?
