Loud ticking with AC on
Loud ticking with AC on
My car just rolled 100k (tranny #2, fingers crossed) and this morning when I tossed on my AC, a loud ticking came from the engine - with the AC off, the ticking goes away.
I'm thinking the compressor is on the way out, or that the pulley itself may need to be replaced. Has anyone else had this happen?
Any insight would be appreciated.

let me know if you figure this one out. I have a very similar issue and I took it to the dealership for a diag (among other work) and they said they couldn't find a problem.
I even mentioned to them that the belt might be stretched and/or a bent/loose pulley.
which is really crazy, you'd think they'd charge me for some BS just because they are the stealership.

I gave it a listen today, and it's definitely coming from the side of the belt, but I can't really pin down what's making the sound. It sounds like a baseball card in a bicycle wheel - the ticking gets faster when the RPM's go up.
Pretty peculiar, and a wee embarrasing since my car sounds like a total shitbox with the AC on. I'm going to drag it in next week and see what the dealership says, I'll post up if/when they diagnose it. Hopefully it's just a tensioner.
Thanks for the input guys.

aro408k, thanks for the reply but I don't think this is my exact problem as mine happens at start up if on max a/c (recycle) with max fan and doesn't ever stop.
I think mine might be a bearing in a fan or pulley as it doesn't make the noise on non-recycle mode.
